19.01.2022 WHAT'S ON IN AND AROUND THE HAWKESBURY THIS WEEKEND? Our local markets are on including; Richmond Good Food Market - Saturday, 8am to 1pm at Richmond Park B...ilpin Community Markets and Cafe - Saturday, 9am to 1.30pm at Bilpin Hall Windsor Mall Sunday Market - Sunday, 9am to 3pm in Windsor Mall We have many wonderful bushwalks available throughout the Hawkesbury, including the Vale of Avoca Loop. This walk is approximately 5km return and takes about 2 hours. If you are after a shortish Hawkesbury bushwalk that gives you outstanding wilderness views this is the pick. There are a few hill climbs involved but really its pretty cruisy - take your time at the lookouts and enjoy the bush. This area was not impacted by the recent fires so the bush is in fabulous condition. Keep an eye out for some magnificent mature angophora trees (or Sydney red gums) on the walk. Follow this link for directions and further notes on this walk www.discoverthehawkesbury.com.au//bushwalking-the-vale-of- Follow this link for more tips on how you can Discovery the Hawkesbury www.discoverthehawkesbury.com.au/ Hawkesbury Regional Gallery will reopen its doors on Saturday, with the major exhibition Fieldwork landscapes west of Sydney. 14.01.2022 HUNTRESS - THE STORY OF A LOCAL KOALA The stories about our local koalas continue. Huntress the koala was rescued in January this year by a local resident in ...the Blaxlands Ridge area and named after his son, Hunter. Huntress was taken into care by WIRES volunteer Morgan. There was little hope that she would survive as her body was infested with maggots. She is definitely a fighter and made slow and steady improvements over the following months. After being in care for 5 months, Huntress was released back to a location not far from where she was rescued. She is currently being radio tracked by Science for Wildlife Ltd and it is reported that she is doing well back in the wild. There have been many koala sightings in the Hawkesbury over the recent years and if we want koalas to remain in the area, we all need to play a part in their survival. Here’s how you can help; Report koala sightings to Science for Wildlife via this link https://scienceforwildlife.org/ Contact WIRES on 130 094 737 if you come across an injured koala Ensure your dogs are contained at night Take extra care on our roads This photo was taken after Huntress was released. She loves sitting on top of 30-40 metre high trees . credit to Science for Wildlife Ltd

03.01.2022 It was pleasure to recently get funding for three wonderful organisations that operate in Blacktown City. I was able to divert funds from the Mayoral Allowance ...to help the Community Access Western Sydney group, the Women Support Centre, House of Sakinah and RuffTRACK at Riverstone. CAWS promote, protect and defend the rights of people with disability. The House of Sakinah provides support to all women in a safe environment and RuffTrack provides mentoring and training for our at risk youth. I had a great meeting with Chris Laurie from CAWS, Firdousi Obeidullah from the House of Sakinah and Georgia Cherrie from RuffTrack and hopefully the funds will help them in the great work they do for our community.
