24.01.2022 127 sabres are entered for the Nationals at Blairgowrie! Craig Smith sailing his new FS Sabre 'Slippery When Wet' finished second from about 50 Sabres in the second club race at Blairgowrie yesterday. The invitation races are today. There are five new FS sabres racing in the Nationals, Graeme Mee, Craig Smith, Colin White, Ashley Parkinson and Pam Webster. Good luck all of you! Dinghyshop.com.au are one of the event sponsors.

09.01.2022 The Sabre Vic Titles were held last weekend at Sandringham in winds of mostly 15 to 20 knots. 64 boats competed in the event which featured some particularly big seas on the Saturday which were good fun but a bit daunting for some. Chris Dance borrowed a new FS Sabre 'Erazor 1916' for the event to see how it compares to a YMS Sabre. He found it difficult to stay in touch with the lead group in his non-favoured wind range, but despite still playing around with his rake setting...s to find the most suitable for this new boat, and having raced the boat only once prior to the series, Chris still managed a very impressive second place in heat 3, showing the huge potential of the Formula Sailcraft Sabre. Myself (Jim Scott, 76kg) sailing Aka'ula (Pam Webster's FS Sabre which I finished for her just prior to the Blairgowrie Nationals) managed to consistently get amoungst the leaders despite having raced a Sabre only twice in the lead up (last time I raced a Sabre before that was 35 years ago, No 268 which I built at the age of 14) I found the boat very competitve all around, and felt that with some more practice, and perhaps a better selection of mast and sail, that I would be quite a bit quicker around the course. I managed one 4th place and two fifths, and in the race that I placed 16th, I was in seventh spot when I capsizes tacking! (got stuck under the boom - too much rake, mainsail not hoisted fully, later rectified) My 12th place was when myself and Gary McLennon went right on the first beat and got hammered be those that went left and had to spend the rest of the race working back from mid fleet (Gary finished 28th in that race) The Formula Sailcraft Sabre is definitely fast, and a serious alternative to Sabres from other builders.

05.01.2022 The Sabre Nationals ended up being a light/moderate series and was won by reigning National champ Chris Dance from Black Rock sailing his YMS Sabre. The best placed FS Sabre was Slippery When Wet 1900 sailed by Craig Smith from Blairgowrie who finished 30th overall. Craig was a little dissapointed with 30th but admitted that at 82kg, the conditions were not ideal for him.
