20.01.2022 Hey All, Ive got a fantastic PD opportunity for you in Hobart on 26/7 - next Friday. Arson is an unfortunate regular feature in our news, and never fails to incite public interest and rage. ANZAPPL, the Australian New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law, is presenting a full days program with a morning workshop and afternoon panel discussions. The day will be held on the Hobart waterfront on Friday 26th of July. Dr Katarina Fritzon, Forensic and Clinical ...Psychologist of Bond University will discuss why people set fires; profiling; subgroups such as female, juvenile and bushfire arsonists; and legal considerations. The afternoon will see Dr Fritzon joined by a panel of local experts, including Police, Fire, Deputy DPP, and a former prosecutor and current Legal Aid criminal lawyer. The panel will consider Arson from All the Angles, and Tasmanias other arson problem burned out cars. Open to all! Non-members $65 - barely covers your catering costs. Members $19.50. 13.01.2022 Feel it. Its going to hurt. But every moment youre sobbing, youre doing the work. Every moment youre hurting, youre healing. The only way out is through. I stared at the screen, digesting her words. That was the last thing Id expected. Id expected to be coddled or encouraged to look at the bright side. Id expected to be force-fed an ice cream cone at J.P. Licks. This was different. For the first time in my grieving process, I wasnt told to gloss over my feelings w...ith a coat of rose-colored paint. Someone I trusted was encouraging me to feel my pain in its entirety. Through her eyes, my pain was valid and productivea necessary step on my journey toward healing. Her direct acknowledgement of my suffering was the permission I needed to truly feel my pain instead of avoid it. Instead of worrying that I wasnt trying hard enough to be happyinstead of worrying that I was taking too long to healI felt like I was doing everything properly. I could celebrate the work I was doing, even when that work was breaking into sobs, for the third time that day, on the half-mile walk home. My pain and grief had meaning. It could serve a purpose. It could serve me." A worthwhile read from Tiny Buddha

13.01.2022 An interesting read

09.01.2022 I would like to offer some tickets to this screening this Friday night. Im thinking 4 tickets - so let me know how many youd like and Ill let you know if youve been successful. In order to protect your privacy, happy for expressions of interest to be via PM or reply. "Defiant Lives introduces the world to the most impressive activists youve never heard of and tells the story of the rise and fight of the disability rights movement in the United States, Britain and Austral...ia. Featuring exclusive interviews with elders (some now deceased) whove led the movement over the past five decades, the film weaves together never-before-seen archival footage with the often-confronting personal stories of disabled men and women as they moved from being warehoused in institutions to fighting for independence and control over their lives. Once freed from their imprisonment, disabled men and women took on the big charities, criticising the use of celebrities to beg on their behalf. They chained themselves to public transport around the world and demanded access to boldly go where everyone else has gone before; and they lobbied for support to live ordinary lives in the community with family, lovers and friends. Defiant Lives is a triumphant film full of extraordinary characters who put their lives on the line to create a better and very different world where everyone regardless of impairment is valued and can participate."
