11.01.2022 Multiple challenges, which have dogged business operators, retailers and the community across the region during the past 12 months, have done little to slow down Forster Tuncurry Business Chamber. During the lockdown and operating in accordance with COVID restrictions, the organisation continued to reach out to members, offering support and assistance, and at the same time increased membership to 170, adding more than 30 over the year. Looking back on her first year at the he...lm, president, Megan Lewis said during the height of the COVID restrictions, the committee contacted members to check in with them and to ask a few questions to help inform what support the chamber could provide, directly or indirectly. "It was really important to the chamber to check in with local business owners as we were all going through unchartered territory," she said. "It was inspiring to learn about how people had adapted their business models and service delivery - and many shared with us how supportive the local community were being by shopping local." To show their appreciation, the chamber organised a special "thank you" advertisement that ran on WIN for a month courtesy of WIN. The members loved it and the feedback from the community was very positive. Monthly meetings returned to the breakfast format under COVID safe conditions at Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club in July following the three month lock-down. More than 255 people attended the events held this year, culminating in an end of year celebration held at The Deck, Tuncurry. The chamber also worked closely alongside MidCoast Council and chambers from across the Mid Coast region on initiatives to support the wider local community including the launch of the ShopMidCoast EFT gift card. At this year's annual general meeting, held on Wednesday, November 25, Ms Lewis (The Resolution Network) was unanimously re-elected president. She will be assisted by incoming vice-president, El Rattray (Explore Barrington Coast), secretary, Jessica Gray (Smart Coast Conveyancing) and treasurer, Ian Croker (Regional Finance Solutions) and committee members, Hector Lucenti (The Beach Geek), Nicola Stockdale (R&R Property), Jeanene Duncan (Great Lakes Advocate), Maxine Calladine, Jenny Roddick (Lumpys), Luke Austin (Great Lakes Tackle) and Bianca Adams (TAFE NSW).

05.01.2022 No-one would dispute the past 12 months have been pretty confronting; horrific bushfires coming on the back of the worst drought in living memory, followed by a world-wide pandemic. However, joy is just a heart-beat away as families count-down to an - albeit - different, but much loved festive season. Forster Tuncurry Business Chamber is teaming up with Forster Tuncurry Quota to raise the spirit of Christmas throughout the community inviting all local business operators and r...etailers to dress up their outlets. Dressing-up and decorating shop windows for Christmas enhances the festive spirit of this important retail period, chamber president, Megan Lewis said. During coming days a team of Quota members will begin visiting business outlets with an invitation to embrace the spirit of Christmas and take part in the inaugural Creative Christmas competition. "We want to help raise the spirits of the people and community," Creative Christmas team-member, Nerelle Duff said. Mrs Duff is encouraging businesses to let their imaginations run beyond the odd bauble and tinsel. "Shops could create a Christmas tree using goods that are sold in the shops or business, or decorate a traditional tree if they wish with quirky embellishments," she said. Decorations could be as simple as toothbrushes (for a dentist or pharmacy), tyres in the shape of a tree, inflated plastic gloves for a doctor's surgery; wherever your imagination takes you. At the same time voters have the chance to win one of 10, $50 #ShopMidCoast gift cards for voting for your favourite display, while the winning business will win $1000 to donate to either Great Lakes Women's Shelter, Homebase Youth Services or Great Lakes Palliative Care. "Customers will be asked to vote for their favourite, and the tree with the most votes will win $1000 to donate to one local not for profit organisation," Mrs Duff said. "Soon Quotarians will be visiting all the shops; we have photos of ideas to share and we know everyone loves a Christmas tree so help us make this Christmas special and full of fun by making a tree your customers will find exciting. "Look out for our beautiful blue shirts." The competition will be drawn on December 15.
