23.01.2022 Welcome to our 13 new career firefighters who graduated today! After a challenging and rewarding 16 week recruit course, theyll be working at fire stations in ...Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport from next week. #tasfireservice #firefighterjobs #firefighter #firefighters

23.01.2022 With 14 serious injuries and three deaths occurring on our roads in the last two weeks alone, police and our emergency services counterparts at Tasmania Fire Se...rvice, Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania SES are calling on Tasmanians to take road safety seriously. This year weve had 21 fatal and 155 serious injury crashes on our roads. In the same period last year, we had 17 fatalities and 143 serious injuries. These arent just statistics, each crash is at least one life thats been taken, or irreversibly impacted. Police talk about the Fatal Five; speeding, not wearing seatbelts, alcohol and drugs, fatigue and distraction because people die on our roads for those reasons. Please slow down, wear your seatbelt, rest if youre tired and dont drive distracted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. As always, police will be out patrolling roads across the state and enforcing our road rules, but we need Tasmanians to help us by doing their bit and keeping themselves and other road users safe. Some road safety tips: Never drive faster than the speed limit, and if conditions are wet, dark or frosty, slow down and travel at a speed that feels safe and allows plenty of time to stop quickly and safely. Be aware roads can become slippery and drive accordingly. Leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead. Dont allow distractions like mobile phones to affect your judgement and reaction times. Drive with headlights on when visibility is poor.

17.01.2022 *****PLEAS READ***** Last week we, along with Brighton and Bridgewater career Fire Brigades, attended a structure fire at Mangalore. Upon arrival, we discovered... the upstairs bedroom had started to burn due to an unattended candle that had been left burning. The families pet dog had accidentally knocked the candle over causing the fire to start. Quick thinking by the resident (who was downstairs) closed the bedroom door, containing the fire to the bedroom only. The resident was alerted to the fire by WORKING smoke alarms. This is a timely reminder to check your smoke alarms are in working order and that your fire evacuation plan is discussed. This situation could have been a lot different if it wasnt for these things.

15.01.2022 A new type of medium tanker for PWS fire management crews The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) Fire Management branch purchased a new Isuzu NPS 75/155 ...truck last year - a 7.5 tonne GVM twin cab chassis truck with 155 horsepower intercooled turbo diesel 4 cylinder engine with an automatic gearbox. It then went to Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) Engineering Services for fabrication into a fire fighting appliance. It is a new type of configuration for PWS, (tried and tested over many years by the TFS) allowing an increase in crew seating from two in a Landcruiser to six in an Isuzu, giving the benefit of allowing extra members to join the crew, particularly handy when mentoring new members. The water carrying capacity is the same at 1250 litres, however the Isuzu with a full tank and crew is still more than 500 kilograms under the maximum allowable operating weight load. This in turn allows for safe operation and the flexibility of adding extra gear if needed. Another feature is a water cooled diesel pumpset, delivering high pressure water output, great for running hose lays or reaching high into trees that are alight in the upper limbs. It also has twin hose reels, particularly handy in initial fire attack or when blackening out. The tanker is fitted with the usual heat reflecting shields on all the windows, in addition it is also fitted with the crew protection deluge system, that runs a sprinkler system externally above the cab to help protect the occupants from radiant heat if ever in a burnover situation on the fireground. The tunker is also fitted with large locker areas, with a separate large locker for transporting personal gear, keeping it separated and clean. All access is from ground level, there is no requirement to climb up on the tray to gain access to equipment, keeping the operators away from the risk of slips, trips and falls. The 2020/21 fire season has been a little quiet but the planned burning season will see the new P12 tanker put into action and tested on the fireground. The tanker is based at Lutana. If youre self-quarantining at home because yo...uve travelled into Tasmania after Friday the 20th of March, we might be dropping by to check youre ok, and that youre doing the right thing by staying home. 13.01.2022 A house fire in Glenorchy last night was caused by a clothes dryer, destroying a garage, and $100,000 damage. Some tips for safe clothes dryer use: clean the ...lint filter after each use - lint is highly flammable and is the cause of many dryer-related fires. make sure your dryer is well ventilated. always run the dryer to the end of the cool down cycle - fires have been caused when the dryer has been stopped before the end of the cycle, causing the items to keep heating up and combusting while they are in a pile. For more information about how to stay stafe this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

06.01.2022 Fuel Reduction Burn - Tugrah Road, Tugrah - 8 November Weather permitting, the Tasmania Fire Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Sunday 8th Nove...mber at Tugrah Road, as part of the state-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities. The total area of this burn will be approximately 30 hectares, and is likely to take 2-3 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites https://www.health.tas.gov.au/publicheal/air/bushfire_smoke and https://coronavirus.tas.gov.au/keeping-yourself/air-quality and https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke. Current air quality information is also available via the Environment Protection Authority website https://epa.tas.gov.au//real-time-air-quality-data-for-tas Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Tasmania Fire Service on phone 1800 000 699 or email [email protected]. A map of planned burns is available on the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow

04.01.2022 As bushfires continue to affect large parts of Australia, generous Tasmanians are asking a lot of questions about how/where/what to donate. In Tasmania, we have... seen bushfires affect communities in the Upper Derwent Valley and the Fingal Valley so far this season and people impacted are being looked after through regional recovery arrangements. So far the impact on the wider Tasmania community has been minimal compared to the utter devastation on mainland Australia. We have also received many offers of charitable donations to the Tasmania Fire Service and our brigades. TFS is a government-funded organisation that doesnt operate on charitable funds. While we are so grateful for the generosity shown towards us, we simply do not need financial donations. What our firies would love to see is donations being channeled towards the victims of the ongoing bushfire emergency. See below for official channels to donate to To support those affected by the bushfires: AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS BUSHFIRE DISASTER RELIEF & RECOVERY FUND https://www.redcross.org.au//disaster-relief-and-recovery- To support affected wildlife: RSPCA https://www.rspcansw.org.au/bushfire-appeal/ or VIC https://rspcavic.org/giving/donate WIRES https://www.wires.org.au/donate/emergency-fund To support firefighters: NSW RFS https://bit.ly/2umf1Fi VIC CFA https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about/supporting-cfa SA CFShttps://cfsfoundation.org.au/donate

04.01.2022 Use that extra hour tomorrow on something that could save your life. Change your clock, check your smoke alarm: if you have alkaline battery powered smoke al...arms, replace the batteries. check the expiry date on your smoke alarm and if it’s past the date, throw it away. if you have a 10-year lithium battery smoke alarm, test it monthly. clean dust from your smoke alarm regularly with the soft head attachment on your vacuum cleaner. make sure smoke alarms are installed in every sleeping area, hallway and at the top of stairs.

02.01.2022 Our Sausage sizzle is underway, don't forget to stop by and say hi , we look forward to seeing you

02.01.2022 The weather at this time of the year is fickle. One day the weather can be perfect for burning and a couple of days later it's warmer and the wind picks up, ca...using those burns to escape. TFS has seen an increase in escaped burns on private property over the last couple of weeks. We encourage property owners to use favourable weather conditions to burn and reduce fuels to mitigate their bushfire risk, but this must be done safely . If you're planning to burn on your property you must be adequately prepared for the size of the burn and for the weather conditions you are burning in. You should also keep checking it in the days after it's been extinguished.

02.01.2022 Little Tilley got more than she bargained for last night when she took a tumble down a 25-metre cliff at Don Heads. Miraculously, her collar snagged on a branch... five metres from the top. Firies from Devonport and Burnie, including vertical rescue specialists, turned Tilleys ruff day around by performing a very complex and time-consuming rescue. Unfurtunately the pupparazzi didnt get a snap of Tilley with her rescuers, but by all accounts, she was very happy to be back in the arms of her owner. While its not the kind of incident firefighters respond to every day, it was a good oppawtunity for them to hone their skills using an un-fur-gettable real-life scenario.

01.01.2022 A bit different

01.01.2022 A motorhome we was paged to last night @Forth football oval, lucky the owner got out unhurt only with minor burns. We used 2 people in BA to fully extinguish the fire and managed to save the caravan beside that almost caught fire take by bystanders
