14.01.2022 It is frightening sometimes to see the type of work that other "Tradesmen" and companies consider to be acceptable. Today, one of our technicians identified these poor wiring terminations when replacing an exit light at one of our new customer sites. The fundamental principle when connecting electrical cables is the provision of electrical continuity. The electrical tradesman must ensure that the connection is not less in continuity than the original conductors, along with a...n appropriate level of insulation and adequate mechanical strength. Proper wiring techniques in this situation would include minimising the length of secondary insulation removed and ensuring the maximum number of copper wire strands are effectively terminated by twisting them properly or using a crimp connector before inserting and tightening the screw of the tunnel connector. The irony of the attached photo is that these poor terminations (which have the potential to overheat, cause fire and are generally unsafe) have been made at a device that is intended to perform a life safety function.
13.01.2022 It has been a wonderful 12 months for Fortifire with the successful implementation of our new Maintenance Management System. Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with many customers accessing our new Customer Portal. We are always working with our software partners to further enhance our customer experience. This strategy will continue as we look toward 2020 and beyond with plans to introduce two more service offerings that will provide our customers with even greater controls over their legislative and safety obligations.
12.01.2022 On Thursday 6 and Friday 7 September, at the world renowned Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the plumbing, fire, gas, mechanical and hydraulic trades and professions came together to pull off one of the most unique joint trades based conferences in Australia. The two-day schedule was jam-packed with informative sessions, Q & A panel discussions, networking opportunities and social functions, including a Spring Racing Gala Dinner and Aussie BBQ Lunch. With streams ...specifically designed for each trade, there was a great mix of professionals who were able to come and go based on their schedule and interests. There was also over 30 exhibitors in the trade area, so there was plenty to see and do between sessions. Our very own Campbell Yates was one of the presenters with a thoroughly engaging overview of Passive Fire Penetrations and the requirements for installation and the ongoing preservation of these important building fire safety features.
12.01.2022 JERSEY 16-006 is being retired After five (5) years of invaluable service in helping to grow the Fortifire business, Peter Cronin will be retiring today. Peter joined Fortifire on the 4th January 2016 in what was anticipated to be a role that would last for a couple of years.... In 2016, Fortifire were still operating out of the small office at the Townsville Business Development Centre where our desks were side by side in the 3m by 8m space. Whilst Peter’s experience and knowledge will be missed, we will be grateful for the solid business and administrative foundations that he has worked hard to implement and maintain. His Jersey number (16-006) shall be rested, never to be worn at Fortifire again. Thank you Peter Cronin and stay happy and healthy in retirement. (Who’s going to run the Gold Lotto Syndicate now??)

01.01.2022 It's January 2020 and during a fault finding service call at a site where we recently started maintaining the Fire Equipment, our technicians find a Minitherm connected to a Hochiki Fire Detection circuit. This type of heat detector was typically being pulled out of buildings in the 1990's.
