23.01.2022 The peak bodies and consumer groups that represent the aged care sector have released their finalised industry code for guiding providers through the coronavirus pandemic and allowing families to be reunited with loved ones. The code, released on Tuesday, has no grounding in law and providers are only advised to adhere to it. The Code includes the respective rights and responsibilities of providers, residents and visitors. It outlines that homes should allow residents to meet their visitors in ways that minimise the risk of COVID-19s introduction to, or spread within, a residential care home. The peak bodies say that the code will be reviewed after three weeks to address any implementation issues and ensure it will respond to current concerns To access the code visit: https://bit.ly/2LqEpyP.

19.01.2022 Fortis Consulting was proud to have partnered with UWA, Myvista Retirement Village, the UWA Policy Institute and the Institute of Advanced Studies in a well-attended RESEARCH FORUM ON AGEING DIVERSITY AND INNOVATION: APPLIED RESEARCH AND POLICY ON AGEING. The program included researchers, policy developers, trainers and providers. It was exciting for attendees to be consulted by the Department of Health (Commonwealth) on dementia related issues as they impact on diverse group...s, particularly vulnerable groups such as Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal people. Fortis Consulting was particularly delighted that Angela Ryder from the Langford Aboriginal Association Inc (LAA) spoke on the Aboriginal Aged Care Community Hub on Noongar Country (AACCH) which involves an innovative, culturally appropriate program being developed with the Aboriginal Noongar community. The AACCH has involved a partnership with LAA, the South West Aboriginal Land Sea Council (SWALSC), Relationships Australia and Fortis Consulting for the last 5 years. The project recently obtained funding from the Australian Government. It was also such a pleasure to see a large group of @northmetrotafe staff at the event, reinforcing the Memorandum of Understanding that Fortis signed with North Metro TAFE at the forum in 2018.

17.01.2022 Premier Mark McGowan reminds us to check in on our most vulnerable and the elderly. This is a time to make sure your loved ones, your neighbours and even those you don't know are doing OK and that they understand the limitations and rules that are in place. With many elderly not as 'tech-savvy' it's important we relay the messages where possible so they are across the changes that are occurring rapidly.... But most importantly, this is the time when they need to know that we care. Whilst we can't be right next to them that we are only a phone call away if they need us.
