24.01.2022 This new boardwalk constructed at the Tyto Wetlands was designed and documented by Fortis EM and provides great access to tourists and bird watchers to see some of the local wild life. From the boardwalk you can see native birds nesting on the opposite side of the wetland. These projects whilst small, provide immense cultural value to our local communities.

23.01.2022 This is an impressive lift currently being undertaken in China for a steel conveyor structure soon to be delivered to Townsville. Lift engineering was undertaken but ForitsEM to both Chinese and Australian standards. Total weight is around 80 tonnes.

22.01.2022 Beautiful weather for a proof roll this morning for a Subdivision being managed by FortisEM in the Burdekin. Wet weather has made for challenging conditions but the contractors have manged the site well.

21.01.2022 The Mount Stuart Street project at James Cook University is finally complete with road having opened last week! This project lays some important infrastructure foundations for future building works on the campus so it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years. The contractor on the Project was CES Civil, however done a great job in meeting project requirements and delivering the project.

21.01.2022 Had the oppurtunity to take the 3rd year engineering students at JCU around the Mount Stuart Street project and give them an oppurtunity to gain some practical experience. Great group of students

20.01.2022 Double Hinged Lifting Beam being proof tested before being put into service. The beam was designed to hinge in the centre to minimize damaging that was occurring to past beams on this site during certain operations. Testing to AS4990 requires lifting twice the WLL. We achieved max 5mm deflection during the test! Works a treat.

16.01.2022 Check out this 3D Render of new rock climbing facility we have designed for Hot Rock Adventure Centre!!! Can't wait to see the finished product

15.01.2022 Recently we designed a house that was structurally unique at "The Village" in Fairfield Waters. The house some unique features, including unique cantilevered stairs, 1 corner of the house being cantilevered with 3mm deflection under cyclonic wind loads for operable glass sliding doors, and the internal structure of the building being fully open to the 7m high ceilings with a mezzanine floor to one side. We are please to announce that this project has been nominated for the "Minor Project of the Year" award at Engineers Australia's upcoming Awards Night and Northern Engineering Conference.

13.01.2022 Silo and structural frame currently being installed in North West Queensland as part of a larger processing facility that Fortis EM is currently providing structural and civil engineering services on.

11.01.2022 Check out this sign which failed during Friday nights storm. Max wind speed recorded at the Townsville Air Port was 70km/hr (well below cyclone wind speed). The sign failed due to buckling failure of the compression flange where the peak bending moment develops. This is why it is important to ensure structures are designed and certified by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland and council approved!

09.01.2022 Had the pleasure of judging and presenting, on behalf of Engineers Australia, the CN Barton Medal Award at JCU last week. Fantastic presentation from our 4 top Engineering Students and Congratulations to Thomas for winning this years CN Barton Medal.

07.01.2022 Construction of the Burdekin Cyclone Shelter is well under way now with tilt-up panel installation almost complete. FortisEM have designed this shelter to withstand wind speeds of over 280km/hr!

07.01.2022 FortisEM is working closely with the owner and Hurst Constructions to design this stunning 4 level home with above ground pool in Mount Louisa. The home has some unique features and designs that will make it stand out from the crowd!! Can't wait for construction to start on this one.

06.01.2022 There has been some negative press about the New City Plan lately, but behind the scenes Townsville City Council has been working closely with many industry groups, including Engineers Australia. It's great to see local government taking such a collaborative approach to Townsville's future.

06.01.2022 When the rock get's to hard, BLOW IT UP! One of our clients in the Brisbane area recently had to use explosives to excavate the stormwater and sewerage trenches for a new subdivision. Anythings possible with the right tools!
