25.01.2022 STARVING OURSELVES FAT I wanted to raise an alarming trend I see in my Naturopathic clinic daily - Women who are unhappy, hormonal and over-weight who are under...-eating. I even visited a relative the other week and spent some time with her interstate. Over the course of the day I noticed that she ate practically nothing. A piece of toast and tea for breakfast, lunch when out might be a nibble on some quiche and salad (she didn't even finish the plate), more tea consumption in the afternoon and then for dinner she would have a plate of meat and vegetables that a 3 yr old would be served. I was in shock! This person is healthy but has some hormone issues and I would not say over-weight, but she is always upset about not being able to lose 5kgs. Now I know why. She is starving herself thin. It's no wonder that our moods are all over the place and weight gain occurs just by looking at a bowl of food. Not to sound cliche, but our bodies are like car's (here comes the male analogy of the human body....). My husband tells me that I cannot let the petrol tank get below 1/4 empty as this will suck up dirty fuel into the engine which means I'm in big trouble. I'm not a car mechanic , so am not sure if that is true or not from a engine perspective, but I am a body specialist and if we are letting our bodies run on empty all the time then for sure, the engine of our body will not be performing to it's full potential. I just want us all, men and women, but women in particular to know that calorie sacrificing is not the answer. Stop now if you are doing this to yourself. Our daughters and son's are watching our behaviour around food and we are leading them down a path of hormonal irregularities, eating disorders and association with food in a negative way. Love your Food and Love your Body. If you do have weight issues then speak to someone that can help fix the mechanics of your engine so that metabolism is fixed without blaming it on the quantity of food we eat. I don't want us to over eat, but we should be eating enough calories from healthy foods. 06.01.2022 3 months is up Short story... At the start of the year I decided that I was sick and tired of getting injured and feeling average. So I decided to get serious and give myself 3 months to change a few little things.... I set a realistic goal and that was to be 98kgs at the end of March. I failed by 1kg, but it wont stop me from still reaching the goal. Also I wanted to run set distances each month, but after straining the hamstring that went out the window. FOR ANYONE ELSE who decides to lose weight a few tips that might help you along the way. That worked for me 1. Set realistic goal and it must be VISIBLE to see each day. 2. Weigh yourself regularly to make you accountable 3. Change the amount you eat. THINGS THAT I NEED TO IMPROVE ON 1. Drinking more water during the day 2. Watching the weekends. SUMMARY OF THE 3 MONTHS I have always said go on diets is your choice, but I believe you have to sustain it after you reach your goal. I basically changed 2 things, what I ate for breakfast and the amount of food I consumed daily. But still wanted to eat or drink what I was eating before. Must understand tho what do you want to look like tho. I still wanted to have decent muscle mass, not just lose weight and feel like I couldnt lift anything. The weekends are a trap, over the 3 months I gained 4.7kgs from each last weigh in, in YELLOW. Understanding the feeling its not going anywhere, this is useless, not seeing any improvement, might as well just give up etc etc. WE ALL go through it, thats why writing it down helped. The early stages of the weight loss are fluid, but that will change over time. Results were 8kg loss ... 5kg was Fat 3kg was Muscle mass The next 3 months I will set another goal and thats to try and put back on the 3kg Muscle mass and stay at 97-98kg. Hope this helps anyone else who decide to go on the journey DM
