23.01.2022 First run for the day. Got off it a little too early. Was a bit late on the chutes and got close to the wall.

23.01.2022 New headers and front end upgrade. The car formally know as RATZILLA is coming along nicely. Getting ready to burn 100% NITRO.

20.01.2022 NITRO TIME. Fire up at the shop tomorrow. About bloody time......

17.01.2022 All fixed. The Fossil Fueler fired up and made a strong statement that it's ready for battle. After last weekends minor debacle, a couple of corrections got us back to where we need to be and the early hemi Donovan is BARKING big time!!!!!. Cant wait to hit the track!

17.01.2022 Thanks for the video from Matt Wilson. First pass of the day. 7.2 @ 200mph. Hurt the clutch which made us miss another session. With the clutch sorted out we found we had a CO2 leak but we figured we could get it down the track. Unfortunately the next pass was a bit all over the track. Due to the steering wheel being at the wrong angle. Would have been good to push further into the sixes. Thank you to all the crew who did a stellar job with the unexpected extra work. Also thank you to our sponsors Wilson's Pipeline Solutions, Cool Air Conditioning Pty Ltd and Amped Magnetos. Always great to be burning 100% NITRO.

17.01.2022 Keeping an injected nitro engine in good shape at the track requires skill and dedication.

17.01.2022 Fossil Fueler dragster ready to consume copious amounts of NITROMETHANE next weekend. The Fiat is enjoying the extra attention. Not quite ready. But salivating at the mere mention of 100% NITRO.

17.01.2022 Great photos by DragPhotos.com.au

17.01.2022 Here's a pictorial of our day at the quarry on Saturday. Our great team confronted some worrisome issues early when the engine would not start, but like true warriors, fought on and ended up with smiles all around.

16.01.2022 After some frustrating delays caused by some decayed methanol in the start up tank, the Fossil Fueler Hemi is alive again.

15.01.2022 Crew turned up after a long "Covid shutdown" and slipped into the routines as if they'd been doing it every weekend. However, the digger didn't really want to play. Running LEAN during the methanol warm up and after the nitro tap turned on. The damned thing was "idling" at over 4000 RPM and nothing would bring it down. Shut off all the air bleeds and opened the idle mixture....... seems we have an air leak somewhere. The manifold was pulled and sealing surfaces checked but the next fire up was the same....... shit! OK, so now I'll be pulling the injector apart to find what's going on. After all that, the beer and prawns were GREAT! Thanks Mike, Ben, Brett and Steve. I'll get it fixed - probably something that doesn't like sitting around for months doing nothing.

15.01.2022 Some awesome pictures by dragphotos.com.au.

13.01.2022 It's wounded - not mortally, but a couple of soldiers got hurt. I've been flirting with a high compression combo for a few events and as the tune up started to come around yesterday the Donovan Early Hemi reminded me what I shouldn't be doing. Six pistons appear to have pinched the rings on the first pass. That pass at first looked pretty good as the car dipped back into the 6 second range at well over 200 MPH. Steve did cop a bit of oil on the visor, but there was no clear ...sign of where it came from. The data logger failed to record but plugs looked very rich still. Second pass was slower (but still over 200 MPH) despite tuning in more power - that was a big worry. Better leak it down - and there, the story was told. Several cylinders indicated over 80% leak down and almost all of them over 30%. In the next couple of days I'll tear it down and expect to see crushed ring lands on all those brave soldiers. They'll get a decent burial, and new recruits shall be signed up...... with a less aggressive compression height!!!!!! lesson learnt. See more

12.01.2022 Hmmmm. This might just work.

12.01.2022 Thanks to Neale and Matt Wilson for these images and videos from Saturday. We only got two runs in however it was a successful event for us with valuable information gained. It's great to be out there burning 100% NITROMETHANE. Thanks to a great crew Amanda Inwood, Brett Smith, Mike Inwood, Tuner Graham Slapp, Driver Steven Sugano and our valued sponsors Cool Air Conditioning Pty Ltd, Wilson Pipeline Solutions and Amped Magentos. @lazy8onez @ Willowbank Raceway | Drag Racing's Finest

12.01.2022 Big Red at 360 IPF is carrying out some mods to the Fossil Fiat to complete the conversion from twin engined tire smoker to A/Fuel Altered. This thing's gonna thump with a unique engine combo running 100% nitro (of course).

08.01.2022 Some people quipped that I had double trouble when the Fiat was motivated by two blown BBCs...... Well, I've still got double trouble. Looking forward to both these beauties appearing at the track together. Both INJECTED NITRO.

07.01.2022 Well, the Fossil Fueler starter motor got a HUGE workout today. It was plugged on to the end of the crank and spun up 10 times......first for oil pressure and the charge the accumulator - all good. Then warm up plugs in and go for a start......... nuthin" (maybe one or two cylinders fired - nothing else). Checked the mag timing and try again. Nuthin" - not even one cylinder. Methanol misting out of the pipes as the mag switched on. Pulled out the big Supermag out and installe...d the spare - very carefully checked the timing again. Crank again, Steve hits the switch...... nuthin". This is not good. Rechecked mag and wiring - all seemed OK. Out with the dial indicator and verified cam timing. Spot on. Starter batteries are wheezing a bit, but crank it up again and hit the switch.........Shit......NUTHIN'. Time to refill the methanol start up tank. Smells a bit odd said Brett. Let's have a sniff. We all had a sniff. It was kind of like methanol but not as sweet - a bit tangy. It's out of the same jug we have always used, but it had been sitting around for several months, so borrowed a jug of methanol from Pete Leahy. Changed the warm up fuel and cleaned out the alchy start up fuel system. With prayers above cranked the starter again, hit the mag switch and she roared to life immediately (thank you sweet Jesus!!!!). Shut 'er down after a couple of minutes - everything is warmed up - take a few deep breaths. Time to see if the nitro fuel system changes are OK. On the next start the engine was switched over to NITRO and it was as fat as hell, but such a delight to have the eyes watering and choking all the cockroaches hiding in the workshop corners. On the next start up, the took some pressure readings and tested the mechanical mag timer that advances/retards the points mag 13 degrees - all good. Final start up: put a bigger bleed pill in the two stage idle fuel system and tried again. This time the early hemi really woke up and barked with much menace. So despite the tribulations of the dud warm up fuel (to be further investigated) it was a rewarding day and it looks like the changes will prove more than satisfactory. Of course the digger still has to be tuned to get down the track much quicker than is has in the past. But I'm pretty sure Steve will have to DRIVE the thing now. It was a big bummer to not make it to todays nostalgia event at Willowbank, but we'll be there next weekend at the QDRC event. See ya there. See more

06.01.2022 New engine internals (more stroke, CR etc), new fuel system, new ignition system.....bang!... off the trailer with a planned 1000' shut off and best incrementals ever. A 6.90 at just 165.3 MPH. Well that was pretty cool, but did ya see the car all squirrelly - from the start line it was clear the front wheels were in the air for much of the pass and rudderman Steve confirmed he had his work cut out but pushed on and clicked it right at the 1000". So for the next pass the eng...ine was tamed down a little for the first half of the track but there was still a question mark about what it needed at the top end. A conservative approach was taken. First half was as expected - a little slower than the first bonzai run - and from then on it was hosing out of the pipes - dropped 4 cylinders and blubbered over the line at 196 MPH - it was another 6.9 second pass so not all bad. For the final pass I mucked up the fuel system timers and it was a shocker - way too much fuel all the way down the track. It was a very 'educational' day and much was learnt about the new systems and what the car needs. We were a little short handed with crew, but Brett Smith and Ben Claire worked smoothly and efficiently to turn the car around with no fuss all day. Thanks guys - absolutely first class! And thanks to Ken and Winti Lowe for checking our compression ratio with their wizz-bang CR checking contraption. Our next outing will be in April, and after reviewing all the data, I'm pretty sure we'll have a better handle on the tune up.

04.01.2022 We even managed some "ink" in the meeting report by dragnews.com.au.

03.01.2022 Photo thanks to Rick Millington Photography.

03.01.2022 Fossil Fueler injected nitro digger runs over 200 MPH even with 6 wounded pistons.

02.01.2022 Rudder Man Steve and I smashed it at the race shop today. Gave the Fiat a bit of airtime - swung down from the mezz deck and prepared her for the welding bay to receive some mods and brackets for A/Fuel Altered service. Great to see two injected nitro cars side by side - even though it isn't at the track ...... YET!
