21.01.2022 Identity documents essential to the care of a child or young person, beginning with birth certificates, passports and Medicare details forms FCAV’s advocacy leading to the ‘Strong carers, stronger children’ Carer Strategy. The human right to their own identifying documents is still missing for some children and young people in care in Victoria. We continue to advocate to address the basic administration issues within the sector which inhibit carers’ ability to support young people to access or access them on behalf of the children in their care. https://www.fcav.org.au/advocating-change/manifesto

20.01.2022 Last days to participate! Please click on the link below to participate in this carer information survey, commissioned by the Department Health and Human Services (DHHS) and conducted by Ernst and Young. Gathering up to date information about accredited carers and their needs is essential. With current carer information, the sector is better able to understand what motivates and concerns volunteer carers and what it can do to better support carers in the future. Carer informa...tion from the survey also assists the Foster Carer Association of Victoria (FCAV) to advocate on your behalf. This is your chance to tell the DHHS about your carer experience. By sharing your thoughts, you are helping to improve the experiences of kinship, foster and permanent carers through the development of better targeted programs and policies. The survey is part of the Victorian Government’s Home-based Carer Strategy, Strong carers, stronger children and will provide information for improving policy, programs and services. The data from the survey will assist in tailoring a carer-focussed Carer Strategy work program. The survey has been endorsed by Kinship Carers Victoria (KCV), Permanent Care and Adoptive Families (PCA Families) and the FCAV. It will take about 10-15 minutes to complete depending on your answers. Your responses will be completely confidential and anonymous To access the survey, please click the following link (or copy and paste it directly into your browser): https://www2.srnet.com.au/SE/1/31076 If you have already completed the survey please ignore this request. 09.01.2022 Just announced! The Victorian Government has announced a $1.6b package doubling of the number of students who will receive extra support in the classroom. All schools will benefit from the change, enabling them to better support students who may have previously been ineligible for targeted support such as those with autism, dyslexia or complex behaviours. So many foster carers will be delighted and relieved that the children in their care will have the opportunity to access... this offering. We hope it is a real opportunity for children with additional needs to really receive the extra support and guidance they need. It has been such a gap for children with additional needs and they so often just fall further behind their peers. We look forward to providing more detail on how the program will be implemented and its long term impact. https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/inclusive-education-making-s See more
