25.01.2022 Our wellbeing team, staff and students are all concerned about screen time during this period of remote learning. Time in front of a screen is at an all time high for school and adding that onto time gaming can be problematic. If this is a concern please contact a Wellbeing Team member, a parent/guardian or a staff member at school. ... We can help! https://www.facebook.com/610010266102914/posts/1018760608561209/?vh=e&extid=ccQJjJuBXfcJZzzq

23.01.2022 RUOK Day this Thursday - the most important ever!!

23.01.2022 Wear it Purple today!! Wear It Purple Day is an annual LGBTQ+ awareness day, and this year it falls on Friday, 28th August. The day empowers young people and celebrates diversity throughout our schools, workplaces and the broader community. By chucking on a purple shirt, pulling up your purple socks, or literally dyeing your leg hair purple, you are visibly showing your support for LGBTQ+ youth and reminding young people they are loved, accepted and have the right to be proud of who they are.

23.01.2022 Remote Learning Survey Results In part 2 of our analysis of student feedback on the remote learning survey we present graphs that display a percentage of what they missed about in-class learning. The results are separated into year levels, with the number of students who responded to each question in brackets. The red line through the graphs representing the College average. These results indicate that as students move through school they miss class discussion and teacher in...struction more. The results are encouraging as they indicate that the majority of students (61%) were able to self regulate and didn't need the teacher to keep them on task or up to date with their work. More results indicate the significant role teachers and peers play in providing immediate feedback and support in the learning process, especially in the Senior School. Students in Years 10 & 11 missed the group work and practical activities associated with in-class learning the most. It is a surprise to see low results in Years 8 & 9 as group work and practical activities are a significant proportion of the programs delivered to students in these Year levels. We greatly appreciate the honest feedback our students have provided and feel it validates the excellent work the staff at FSC do to engage students to develop the skills needed to be highly successful in life and productive citizens in the global community. We will conclude our analysis of the remote learning survey next week we we present Part 3: What students liked about remote learning.

22.01.2022 Well done to all our students who sat the GAT at school today!!! Great to see students back on school grounds. Well done everyone!

20.01.2022 Week 1 Term 4 2020 For most students, Week 1 Term 4 will be no different from Remote Learning during Term 3. Your teachers will provide you as much support as you need but continuing to learn and communicate with each other will be as helpful at home as it is at school. Stay safe everyone!

17.01.2022 Some wonderful feedback for two of our VCAL students kicking goals in their work placement: Dear Tania and Roxy, I just wanted to take a minute to touch base with you about the 2 trainees, Paige DaCosta and Brooke Pattinson, that commenced their traineeship at Prom Coast Centres for Children earlier this year.... The traineeship program with Foster Secondary College and MEG is an important partnership for PCCC. We are committed to working with you to support the education and development of students and workers to provide quality skilled employees for our community into the future. Brooke and Paige have been now been employed at PCCC Foster, 2 days a week for 3-4 months. During this time I have received consistent feedback from all the staff teams that they are both reliable, diligent, hardworking, respectful, and above all display qualities in the care and education of children that are exceptional. They have both been a tremendous asset to the teams in their rooms and are well respected and cared for by the children and families. I want to congratulate both Brooke and Paige on their commitment to PCCC and the children and to acknowledge their achievements so far. We are excited to have them as part of our Service and will continue to support them to as they learn and develop and work toward becoming highly skilled professionals in the Early Childhood Field. Thankyou Tania and Roxy, I look forward to working with you into the future , Regards Logo PCCC Sue Millett, Foster Centre Director Thank you Sue and we’ll done Paige & Brooke!!

15.01.2022 LEVEL UP HEALTH CHALLENGE 2021 Busy family of four looking for constructive advice on how to make their daily meals healthier All cost covered. Immediate start. Challenge accepted. Our Year 11 Health class set to work. An investigation of the breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items the family usually have in a week, and an interview about allergies (lactose) and foods the family disliked (capsicum and cucumber). ... The challenge itself levelled up as each group was given a specific paradigm to follow.Breakfast followed the ‘Sugar Free Movement’, Lunch followed ‘Ayurvedic’ meal advice, and Dinner followed a ‘FODMAPS’-style plan. The students’ meal-planned three full days for the family, prepared a shopping list and then purchased all of the food at our local Foster Supermarkets (costs covered). Finally, the recipes and food were delivered, and the family got set creating all of the dishes, each with a review and feedback. The next step is for the students to compare the costs, nutrient value and reaction from the family, and to create a reflection on the experience as a whole. Initial insights from the students have been: ‘I didn’t know food cost so much’, ‘it’s actually hard to figure out which product is healthier for you,’ ‘it’s pretty difficult to cater for everyone’s needs,’ ‘I didn’t realise how much sugar was in. everything’. Quinoa Porridge Serves 3-4 1 cup white quinoa 1 cup raw unsalted cashews 1 cup full far coconut milk 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Berries, sliced banana Place quinoa and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan, bring to boil. Pop lid on and reduce to simmer. Cook 15 minutes until water has absorbed, then turn off heat and fluff up with a fork. Put lid back on and leave for 5 minutes. Add cashews, coconut milk, cinnamon and vanilla, and cup of water. Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes until quinoa is plump and cashews have softened. Serve warm with Berries.

Well done to both classes of VCE Unit Three Year Twelves for undertaking their study of this text with commitment and motivation!" The Year 12 English Team"

06.01.2022 Given the unprecedented nature of the remote learning period we have just been through, we thought it important to capture student feedback on how they coped with the system put in place here at FSC. Students were asked to respond using a 5 points scale. The following graphs display the students' feedback as a percentage of how effective they felt each aspect of remote learning was. The results are separated into year levels (with the number of students who responded to each... question in brackets) with the red line through the graphs representing the College average. Overall, the college is very happy with how our students and their families coped with this quickly instituted and unprecedented method of teaching. We recognise how difficult it was for many students and their families but are pleased with the endorsement the data indicates. A huge thank you for the efforts of everyone in the school community in coping with this crisis.

06.01.2022 Face Coverings at FSC Based on advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government announced that compulsory wearing of face coverings will extend to all of Victoria from 11.59pm on Sunday 2 August. This means everyone over the age of 12 must wear a face covering when they leave their home for one of four reasons:... Face coverings for staff and students in schools: - All school-based staff must wear face coverings at school, and when travelling to and from school. - Teachers and education support staff Teachers and education support staff will not be required to wear face coverings while teaching, but those who wish to do so, can. Teachers should wear face coverings in other areas of the school when not teaching (for example, in the staffroom, on yard duty and when providing first aid or taking temperatures), and when travelling to and from school. Secondary students: - All secondary school students who are attending on-site for Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) or on-site supervision will need to wear a face covering, including when travelling to and from school, unless they are travelling alone in a vehicle or with members of their household. Exemptions: Some students and staff are exempt from these requirements. This includes students or staff who have a medical condition - including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition. Stay safe everyone.
