25.01.2022 If You want to hear how good Australian Jazz has become, give a listen to Turning Point, the latest CD by Jason Bruer’s Hammerhead, an exceptional recording that ticks all the right boxes." - Mike Nock A perfect description of Hammerhead and we are thrilled that they are playing Foundry616 once more on Thursday the 6th of May. They will be bringing their array of disparate influences from ‘in your face’ hard swing to a slinky waltz; from breathtaking ballads to a blues-based eulogy; from a classically informed fugue to funk and jazz-folk to odd-meter ‘urban jazz’. Hammerhead will play brand new material & tunes from their much-acclaimed 2019 release ‘Turning Point’. World-class pianist Greg Coffin, who also plays in Hammerhead, will be performing tunes from his 2017 release ‘The Key Is The Colour’. 10.01.2022 Michael Griffin blazing through the Coltrane changes over the legendary 'Giant Steps'. The Michael Griffin quintet returns to Foundry616 this Saturday the 10th of October to play tunes written by the great Cole Porter. Even though he was a giant of Twentieth-Century American popular music, Cole Porter’s magical songs appear as reinterpretations by jazz musicians far less often than those of George Gershwin’s and other Tin Pan Alley composers. For this exclusive night Michael... Griffin will reinterpret tunes such as 'Night & Day', 'I’ve Got You Under My Skin', 'Love For Sale', 'I Love Paris' and many more. 10.01.2022 The Latin ensemble SONIDO hits the Foundry616 stage this Saturday the 17th of October. Doors at 6:30pm and music starts at 8:30pm. The members of SONIDO are influenced by the music of their home, as well as the poetry, sounds and rhythms of their heritage. The product is a unique form of Latin American-infused musical expression forged in the crucible of their families’ immigrant experience in 1970s & 80s Australia. Today Sonido is focused on distilling the influences and experiences of over 40 years into a very distinct form of artistic expression. It is a music born of a love for their home, awe for their heritage and respect for the sacrifices of their parents’ generation that risked it all, voluntarily or by force, to build a new life in a strange place. It is traditional music of a place on no map, a folklore in search of a country.
