25.01.2022 Joey, my foster greyhound, receiving laser for his Achilles tendon tear. He is doing really well. When he first came in from racing, 19 days ago, his foot was clawed and his hock was dropped. He is now walking on a normal foot with better hock position. We might even be able to escape surgery at this rate. I will discuss his progress with the Specialist next week.

21.01.2022 Joey Update: So Joey has been with us for several weeks now and the good news is, he avoided needing surgery for his Achilles’ tendon tear. He has responded really well to Physiotherapy. I have worked with him in much the same way as I would with a person with a similar injury- progressive loading, stability work, proprioceptive retraining and some laser therapy to help speed up the tissue healing process. Joey is now recovered and walking 4km without an issue, loves playing with Ella in the garden, enjoys going on car rides and trips to the beach. He’s good in the house, doesn’t go on furniture (unless he’s invited up, but we’ve not encouraged him), and is a very easy, fun loving dude!

20.01.2022 For all of you on the Sunshine Coast, NCVS is moving on 28th September. They also have a super 24 hour emergency service headed by Dr Naomi Hansen.

19.01.2022 This is Joey. Joey will be coming to join my family on Friday as a foster boy with Friends of the Hound. He sustained a partial tear of his Achilles’ tendon 2 weeks ago in his last race, and was then surrendered. I will be with him on his journey back to full health, providing Physiotherapy and even being present at his surgery at North Coast Veterinary Specialists. Watch this space to follow his progress.

19.01.2022 Joey, our new foster grey (blue blanket), has had a great night. He’s going to take a few days to relax, but he is off to a good start. His surgery to repair his Achilles’ tendon is on Aug 18th, then physio with me. At least he gets 10 days to settle in to our routine.

19.01.2022 Laser is something we can now offer our patients. It is a fantastic adjunct to Physiotherapy for pain, tissue healing, oedema and nerve issues.

16.01.2022 I’m on my way home. Heathrow airport was a ghost town and the flight is rather spacious. Just how I hoped. I’m currently half way to Doha (Qatar), then Sydney. See you all soon and thank you for your patience xx

09.01.2022 Balance and strength training for medial luxating patella. Sit to stand work is great at increasing strength in the quadriceps muscles. These are anti-gravity muscles in dogs and work in stability of the hip and stifle. Add in a wobble cushion and you suddenly increase the complexity of the exercise. This little guy is all over it though! #fourpawsphysiotherapy #horseandriderphysiotherapy #caninephysiotherapy

09.01.2022 This old man has had a severe bout of geriatric vestibular vertigo. It is similar to a type of vertigo in people - BPPV or benign paroxysm positional vertigo. It is caused by the formation of little crystals in the semicircular canals of the ear. When in the ‘correct’ place, the crystals are reabsorbed by the body but when they’re hanging out in the wrong canal, they cause significant dizziness as they bash onto the little hairs that help orientate you. A physiotherapist can undertake a manoeuvre that moves the crystals and stops the dizziness. This little guy has had 3 sessions this week and is looking significantly better! #fourpawsphysiotherapy #horseandriderphysiotherapy #acpat #australianphysiotherapyassociation #caninephysiotherapy
