06.01.2022 Welcome back greater bilbies! We are really excited to announce that 10 greater bilbies have been reintroduced to Wild Deserts after being absent for over 100 y...ears. The bilbies were bred at Taronga Western Plains Zoo and flown to Wild Deserts from Dubbo. They were greeted by members of our team and representatives from the Wongkumara and Maljangapa traditional owner groups. Each bilby was weighed, measured and fitted with a lightweight radio-transmitter attached to their tail so that our team can monitor them after release. Just before sunset traditional owners Leroy Johnson, Cecil Ebsworth and Ainsley Ebsworth performed a smoking ceremony to cleanse the bilbies before they took their first steps back on country. We look forward to keeping you posted about how they are getting on!
