Learning about all the important stuff like whether a wine tastes better with your small pinky extended, why it’s not always good to have long legs, and where the how the compounds in the @collector_wines Chardonnay are the same as the ones in the washing that you forgot to take out of the washing machine a couple of days ago. 09.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day Hospitality & Mental Health have often been spoken about in the same breath for reasons well documented. Late nights, high pressure, alcohol and drug use just some of the contributing factors leading to poor mental health, in some instances sadly, even worse. These last 6 months have seen our industry challenged like never before. The pressure to survive whether if you were open or closed has been intense and confronting, but we’ve stood toget...her and supported each other as an industry. When we speak of Mental Health though, it’s often with sadness, or about Illness. Today, I’d like to highlight the Mental Strength of our team. No doubt they too had been feeling the pressure. But they were ready for the challenge and took it on head first. Initially, we rewarded ourselves by getting through each mini milestone as you do in hospitality, with food and alcohol. Lots of it. Recently though, I’ve gotta say, I’ve felt like shit. Slow. Sluggish. Tired. Emotionally drained. Oh and a fair bit heavier. We spoke about getting a PT and now some of the guys have started training together. It was fucking hard to start, and it wasn’t for everyone, but it’s been 3 weeks now and I’m thinking that surely there’s a correlation between increasing your heart rate and general happiness..... there’s just gotta be a link. It’s not the cure to fix Mental Health but there’s been some benefits, no doubt. Anyway, just wanted to share a bit about our journey with you today.
