24.01.2022 This gorgeous sofa table is the second thing that Chris has made for one of our lovely customers. It’s amazing how many people have multiple Chris Blandford originals and goes to show how much people love his furniture!

22.01.2022 A lot of people are saying we should just stay home, and if we’re unwell or at great risk, we certainly should do that. And we should also follow the current rules as the Government announces them. But if everyone stays home, many businesses just won’t survive and that would be heartbreaking. This week I’ve had my hair cut at the same salon I’ve been going to for the 16 years I’ve lived in Tasmania. I’ve also had a pedicure with the beauty therapist I’ve been seeing for almos...t as long. On Friday night I went to one of my favourite restaurants, again somewhere I’ve been going for as long as I’ve lived in this beautiful place. And each day in the shop we continue to get our coffee from the café next door. I’ve decided that we’re not going to get them to stamp our loyalty cards anymore though. We go there because the coffee is good and the people are lovely, not because our 10th coffee is free. It’s only a small thing, but every little bit helps. As a small business owner, I know only too well how scary this situation is. I hope you’ll stop and think about the businesses that are special to you and do whatever you can to support them. I hope Fragments is one of them. See more

22.01.2022 After 7 years of being an integral part of the Fragments team, Helen will be leaving us soon. I’m extremely sad that she’s going, but I understand her desire to concentrate on her property and its many old buildings. There’s very little that Helen doesn’t know about old houses, so it’s not going to be easy to fill her shoes, but alas, we must try! We therefore have a position available for a Casual Sales Assistant. So, if you or someone you know has lots of knowledge and experience when it comes to renovating or building, follow the link to our Seek listing https://www.seek.com.au/job/51416340 to see the full details of what we’re looking for, and if you think you fit the bill, please apply!

20.01.2022 Tradco continues to add to their range of designs and finishes (and they just keep getting better!).

19.01.2022 I'd love to be getting dressed in this room every day!

19.01.2022 With everything that’s going on in Victoria (and being a Victorian originally myself), I feel especially grateful that I've been able to spend the last few days exploring Tasmania's beautiful East Coast. Staying in one of the stunning new villas at Piermont in Swansea, I've enjoyed a fabulous Pennicott Wilderness Journeys cruise to Wineglass Bay (how can you not love seeing dolphins?!), a wine tasting at Spring Vale Wines, and lunches at Artifakt Gallery and Cafe and Tombolo Freycinet at Devil's Corner Cellar Door. It's been wonderful to be able to support Tasmanian tourism businesses. They've suffered so much in the last few months, but hopefully, with the ongoing support of locals, they'll be able to survive. I've started planning my next little trip already!

19.01.2022 Whilst we’re all spending so much time at home, let’s be as productive & positive as we can be. I’ve been in survival mode, frantically trying to keep everything afloat. But then an email arrived from school on Friday, understandably saying that it would be the last day for now. Whilst my daughter is old enough to be at home by herself, I know that social isolation is going to be difficult for her. Suddenly I needed to think about that too. So, we’ve come up with a few ideas.... Starting with some family recipes, we’ve created a list of what we’d like to make. I’m a little worried because it’s mostly sweet things. But that’s where the next idea comes in: exercise! The PM said again today that, as long as we’re not congregating in groups, we can still go outside and exercise. I figure that means my daughter and I can go to a park and have a hit of cricket. (She plays A-Grade women’s cricket though, so perhaps I should be more worried about that than getting chubby from all our baking!). Of course, you might not want to cook or play cricket! As Fragments is still allowed to open at the moment, I’d be delighted if you decided you’d like to spend your time renovating and adding value to your house! :) Maybe you need a new front door, or you have windows or doors that need new hardware? Or maybe you have some furniture that needs transforming? We’re following the Government’s guidelines around social distancing of course, but if you’d prefer not to come in, you’re welcome to order on our website, by phone or email. We’ll happily arrange delivery. I’m acutely aware that so many people are worse off than me. Of course, I have significant worries, but this time is an opportunity to take stock and focus on what’s truly important: relationships with family and friends and good health. We will come through this. One day soon, the pandemic will be over. Wouldn't it be amazing if we had more positive things to take out of it than negative? That's my goal.

18.01.2022 With restrictions being further relaxed, we'll be open again on Saturdays from this week. When you come in, please don’t forget to use the hand sanitiser in the foyer, because we still need to be careful :) In other news, we’re excited that Helen's returning to work after nearly 3 months. She's been renovating a cottage on her property, and I was starting to think that she was enjoying it so much she was never coming back - but fortunately, I was wrong. Welcome back Helen!

18.01.2022 I’ve just had this gorgeous exterior light installed at my house. Made from solid brass, I look forward to the antique silver finish changing and darkening. Always keen to make the most of having a tradesman on hand, I also had some poorly positioned power points moved. And thanks to some fabulous plastering tips from Fragments staff member Helen, I have to say I’m very proud of the job I did in patching the holes that were left. I may not appear very practical and handy (for those of you who know what I look like), but looks can be deceiving!

17.01.2022 You have to be happy when your dinner is delivered on a red Vespa with a message and a drawing like this. Thanks to the gorgeous Dino & Graz from Don Camillo Restaurant in Sandy Bay!

17.01.2022 This lovely cupboard is one of Chris’s latest creations. Whilst he normally likes a polished timber top on most of his pieces, he thought a painted top would be best on this and he’s created a beautiful, waxed finish that feels as good as it looks.

16.01.2022 It seems a little odd to be saying Happy Easter, but here we are. As usual, we'll close at 5pm on Thursday for the Easter break, but things will be a little different when we re-open on Tuesday 14 April. After then, we’ll be in the shop from 9.30am-5pm, Monday to Friday (and other times by arrangement), but the shop doors won't be open. The lights and music will be on, and you'll just need to knock, and we'll be happy to let you in for some private shopping! Our suppliers ...continue to operate normally, so we can still place orders and receive deliveries. Importantly, it also means you can collect orders, and we’ll be there to take new orders by phone, email and via our online shop. It’s going to be different, but we’ll be able to get things done in the shop that we don’t normally have time for. And Chris is going to have more time in his workshop to make beautiful furniture! He’ll still be in the shop on Thursdays & Fridays, so come and see him if you’d like him to make something for you. Things will go back to normal once the threat of COVID-19 passes, but in the meantime, we're really grateful for your ongoing support. Hopefully, we can all still enjoy Easter despite the problems we're facing. Keep checking that the people you care about are okay, be kind to yourself & others and try smiling at strangers; little things often make a big difference to the way someone feels!

16.01.2022 This is my favourite story to come out of the pandemic. Capt Tom Moore committed to walking 100 laps around his garden by his 100th birthday to raise (he hoped) 1000 for the National Health Service in the UK. It's his birthday today, and to date, he's raised about 30million and walked many more laps than 100. What an inspirational and truly remarkable man!

15.01.2022 This Printer's Stationery Cupboard is Chris’s first stunning piece for 2021. He made it from antique timbers and has used lovely old cast iron drawer pulls that he discovered recently at auction.

12.01.2022 This lovely cupboard was made by Chris entirely from antique materials, including the doors with unusual inset shields. He created the colour using Porter’s Milk Paint and, interestingly, he believes it’s the best colour he’s ever made!

12.01.2022 Chris has just finished restoring this lovely antique French armoire. It still has the original lock and key which is amazing when you consider it’s around 170 years old!

12.01.2022 Our lovely door mats are back in stock & this classic blue striped one is my favourite!

12.01.2022 I love this video. It shows the sort of thing Debbie does when she styles Chris’s stunning furniture. She’s the reason the shop looks so good, and we’re very lucky to have her!

11.01.2022 As dark colours absorb heat, it's not a good idea to paint a door a dark colour if it's exposed to direct sun as it can cause the timber to warp, but a black door certainly looks beautiful. Stunning hardware always helps too!

11.01.2022 I have a new little grey shed to house my golf clubs, but sadly it doesn’t look like this one (complete with Tradco centre door knob)!

10.01.2022 The beautiful Hobart sky this morning

07.01.2022 After a long and busy year, we’re looking forward to the Christmas break! We’ll be closed from tomorrow at 3pm until 9.30am on Monday 4th January. We hope you have a fabulous Christmas & look forward to seeing you in 2021 :)

05.01.2022 This gorgeous banquet table didn’t last long. Chris only finished making it on Wednesday. On Thursday he brought it into the shop. And by lunchtime yesterday it was gone! The fact that we also sold another one of his tables yesterday means that his plans for a restful long weekend were somewhat short-lived

05.01.2022 Chris has had many requests for a Butcher’s Block, and finally, he’s had the time to make another one! I wonder who the lucky owner will be?

04.01.2022 Great for a narrow space, this gorgeous table still comfortably seats six and looks fabulous with our cross-back chairs. Chris has been making the most of the extra time in his workshop!

03.01.2022 Amid the chaos in the world at the moment, I’m still going out and enjoying life. And we’re still selling things to make your house more beautiful, including this stunning armoire that Chris just finished making!

01.01.2022 Handmade in the UK by Elstead Lighting, this spectacular candelabra-style light fitting will soon be gracing the home of one of our lovely customers. I can’t wait to see it when it arrives!

01.01.2022 There’s not much hope of going to France anytime soon, but we can still delight in its beautiful design and architecture!
