17.01.2022 Fort du Truc - 1551m & Fort de la Platte - 1993m Built between 1891 and 1894, it’s main role was to protect the Isère Valley, the Malgovert Forest and reinforcing action over the Vulmix Batterie. Armed during the First World War before France became allied with Italy. It was then used as an observatory during the Second World War. 11.01.2022 Day 13 - Nothing beats waking up in the mountains, energy levels are high and even more so after a delicious breakfast.. Out the door we go driving down to Moutiers with its small historic centre, narrow streets surrounding Saint-Pierre cathedral and market. Under Nikki’s wing, meet locals, be blown away by the beauty and history, colours, odours, variety, differences to home and then shop for what is needed for tonight’s dinner, walk around and find the hidden treasures of... the town. Back in the kitchen Nikki guides us in using all this fresh, local, full of flavour produce, laughter of course is included in the recipes... What a winner this dinner is! You can’t beat what is shared in this time as it is not only the satisfaction of what we eat but also the time spent together. Yes isn’t it amazing how tired we feel in the mountain air. 04.01.2022 Day 14 - Hard to believe our time together is coming to an end. A last day as chilled as you would like it to be. A walk to soak in all that this magnificent, serene mountain village has to offer, even a moment to take those final holiday snaps, or just a balcony seat admiring the view... Lunch in a local restaurant before relaxing in the naturally heated springs nearby. A time to gather thoughts, reflect on all we have learnt, loved, liked less, tasted, smelt, heard, peop...le met, those faux pas (blunders) along the way, laughed and cried about and so much more. Back in the chalet, Hugh’s bar is open. A farewell aperitif before sitting to another divine meal lovingly prepared by Nikki. What a week!! And the food..... words can’t describe how good it is.
