16.01.2022 Thursday face mask update. Standard sized masks are out of stock, and there’s only a couple of the larger adult sizes left. I’ll have more arriving on Friday afternoon - keep an eye on this page. I’ll provide a heads up before they go online.
16.01.2022 MAKING A WATER-RESISTANT LAYER FOR YOUR FABRIC FACE MASK Many fabric face masks have two layers of woven fabric, and a pocket. The pocket allows you to put in another layer (or more), to suit your needs. DHHS and WHO guidelines recommend using a water-resistant layer on the outer or middle layer. Here's a quick guide to creating a DIY water-resistant inner layer. ... Your pocket may allow for more than one layer, in which case an absorbent layer (tissue, paper towel etc.) can also be added. If you wear glasses, an absorbent layer will help reduce fogging. The absorbent layer should be closest to your face and the water-resistant layer should be towards the outside of your mask. 15.01.2022 New masks are in stock in lighter colours. Black is the colour I'm asked for all the time (yes Melbourne, I hear you), but for those who prefer something softer there's an option for you. These masks are a two layer, pocket style. You can insert a water-resistant layer and/or filter, and a nose wire if needed for the best fit. Instructions are included in the product description. Ear loops are lightweight to reduce the pull on your ears. They should be adjusted to the ri...ght length to get the mask fitting correctly. This style allows for the ear loops to be replaced with ties, with no sewing necessary. Shop now at www.frangipanibaby.com.au

12.01.2022 The team at Wrapture Australia have been working hard to create quality fabric face masks using their gorgeous woven wrap fabrics, whilst working from home during Stage 4 lockdown restrictions in Melbourne. The first batch have arrived at Frangipani Baby and I'm excited to be able to share them with you. To start, we have Large adult masks in Harvest Flame and Tangent Kaleidoscope. These are made from Wrapture's bespoke woven wrap cotton/bamboo fabric, with an Oxford Cotton... lining. These masks have two layers, with a pocket for optional filter or water-resistant layer(s). The ear elastic is threaded through a side channel (not sewn in), making it adjustable and easy to swap for ties if you prefer. Each mask has a nose bridge sewn in for an excellent fit - especially useful for those who wear glasses. Keep an eye out for more sizes and designs arriving very soon, including child masks. Available to purchase now at www.frangipanibaby.com.au Images show a collage of face masks made from a woven wrap fabric. One is a geometric design in an autumnal rainbow gradient and the other is a rusty red basket design.
11.01.2022 Tuesday afternoon face mask update. I’ve just received a delivery of cloth face masks with pockets, from Sew Face by Lola. These will be available at www.frangipanibaby.com.au at 5:30pm today.... I’ll put a comment on this post when they are online. FAQs * Can I pre-order masks? No, as these are handmade by individual sewers, I do not want to put pressure on the people making them or potentially sell an item we cannot supply due to unavailable materials or any other reason. * Can I order custom masks (fabrics, sizes, styles)? No, as above. I have people working on creating other styles and sizes to provide a wider selection. * The website says Out of stock. Do you have anything else available? No, all face masks are listed on the website when they are available to purchase. If they are out of stock, we will need to wait for the next delivery of new stock. * Can I pick up my order? Yes, pick up is available from Altona Meadows. Orders need to be placed through the website to ensure the mask is allocated to you. Until payment is made, the item remains in store inventory and can be purchased by someone else so please ensure you place your order before coming to collect it. Contactless pick up is available. You will be sent collection information by SMS or email. * What payment methods do you accept? Credit card, PayPal, Afterpay, Zippay, Laybuy and bank deposit are all accepted through the website. * When will my order arrive? Thank you for your patience. Jo
08.01.2022 If you’re waiting on cloth masks, Matthew McConaughey has you covered with a DIY bandana tutorial video. You’ll need a bandana, coffee filter and two elastic bands. Given Melbourne is in lockdown and we aren’t leaving our houses unless it’s absolutely necessary, here are some substitutions you can make with what you may have at home. ... Bandanna: replace with a square or rectangle of fabric. Something you can breathe through. A scarf or bandanna is great, or a muslin baby wrap, strip of fabric from a sheet, triangle bandage from your first aid kit, t-shirt etc. Coffee filter: you’re looking for a filter material. Cut a strip from a green reusable shopping bag, a piece of denim (jeans pocket), or a paper towel. Activewear fabric is meant to be effective. Elastic bands: you could use shirring elastic, old elastic from worn out clothes (e.g. leggings and track pants). You can make loops from a strip of fabric or ribbon or twine, but if it doesn’t have stretch you’ll need to fiddle around to get the fit right. 07.01.2022 MAKING FIT ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR FABRIC FACE MASK The rules requiring face masks to be worn in Victoria (and other parts of the world) have been rapidly introduced, in response to Covid-19 community transmission. As we begin wearing masks out in public, we soon discover that mask styles and construction can vary. It is important to adjust your mask to fit you as snugly and securely as possible, as this reduces the likelihood of you touching your face and mask, and makes it co...mfortable to wear for longer periods of time. A few factors can affect the fit of your mask - the style (pattern) of the mask, the type of fastenings, the materials used and the nose shape. You may need to try a few different styles to find the one that works best for you, but you can also try some tweaks to get your current mask working for you. Adjust your ear loops: If your mask has ear loops, these should be adjusted to fit the size you require (often this means shortening them). To shorten shirring elastic ear loops, simply tie a new knot in the elastic below the original knot. For thicker elastic you may need to untie the original knot. Alternatives to ear loops: If you wear glasses, you may be able to attach a button to the arms of your glasses with a tiny elastic band (loom band), and connect your ear loops to this instead of your ears. Buttons can also be attached to baseball caps if they are worn, or a small toy (barrel of monkeys), hair clip etc. could be used to connect both ear loops behind your head. Swapping ear loops for ties: If you prefer to use ties, you can remove the ear loop elastic and thread your tie fabric through the ear loop channels. A safety pin or darning needle may assist with this. Add a nose wire: I have included an instruction on making and inserting a removable nose wire for pocket face masks which do not have a nose wire built in. Thank you for wearing a mask and helping reduce the rate of community transmission. Jo Original content published here: https://www.frangipanibaby.com.au//making-fit-adjustments-

06.01.2022 Face masks will be mandatory across all of Victoria from 11:59pm this Sunday unless you have a valid exemption. This is in addition to the existing requirement to wear masks in Melbourne and Mitchell shire. If you haven’t already got your masks, please order ASAP so that they can be delivered to you quickly. ... The recommendation is that each person should have three or more cloth masks, to wash and rotate through them after being in a situation where social distancing is not possible. Please do your part to help decrease community transmission. www.frangipanibaby.com.au
