22.01.2022 Have you heard of the "fantasy coffins of Ghana" - No? well neither had we until now. In Ghana, there is a belief that life transcends death and that the deceased will continue with his or her profession in the afterlife. Thus it is important that the dead are buried in something that represents the occupation they had whilst alive, this way, people will remember where they came from and what they have left behind. Your thoughts?

22.01.2022 Look who graduated from Puppy School. Just toilet training to go now! Congratulations Bailey

18.01.2022 A big thank you to all of our beautiful families that in the face of personal grief, continue to be so understanding and co-operative around the Covid-19 restrictions currently effecting the funeral industry. We support and appreciate you all. .

15.01.2022 Dealing with the loss of a loved one. Mourning Ritual 4. Create an Altar in your own home. It may not be something that you have either seen or even thought of before, but creating an altar in your own home can be a meaningful space where you collect personal things that represent or symbolize something sacred to you. It can become a place of peace and reflection for you as long as you need it to be. You could also invite other family members or friends to bring in an item or photos from the loved one, and include them in your special place.

15.01.2022 Are you dealing with the loss of a loved one? if so, could a Mourning Ritual help ease your pain? Try the following: Mourning Ritual 1: Go into their favourite nature spot. Everyone knows nature heals! Take your families out into nature in one of the loved one’s favourite spots. Have a picnic, a sharing circle, and talk about the best and favourite memories and stories shared in this spot.

13.01.2022 Here's a little Hump-day funny to get you to the end of the week!

10.01.2022 Funeral Ceremonies of Australian Aboriginals. Aboriginal Australians have elaborate and profoundly beautiful funeral rituals that have been around for thousands of years. First, they have a smoking ceremony, which is held usually in or around the deceased’s home. Here, native plants are burnt, and this important ceremony has various purposes. The smoke drives away the spirit of the dead and acknowledges the ancestors as well as paying respect to the land, waters and sea of... country. The smoke is also believed to have healing and cleansing properties which are a comfort to those left behind. Mourners will then hold a feast with family and friends, painted ochre, as they partake in food and dance. These days the body may then either be buried or cremated, traditionally loved ones were placed on top of a platform above the ground and covered with leaves and left to decompose naturally. 10.01.2022 We wish you all a restful weekend.

10.01.2022 Dealing with the loss of a loved one. Mourning Ritual 3: Write a letter to your lost loved one. Sometimes when we lose our loved ones, particularly unexpectedly, there are many things left unsaid. Writing a private letter to them and releasing your feelings and thoughts can be a very nourishing exercise.

10.01.2022 The weekend is here. Rest, Release, Recharge. Have a nice one!

09.01.2022 We would like to wish all of our families, friends and colleagues a Happy and Safe Easter. May the peace of this holiday be with all of you whilst you enjoy special time with loved ones and remembering those lost. God Bless.

06.01.2022 Ever wondered how flowers are managed at Adelaide Cemeteries? Due to the need to carry out routine maintenance, floral tributes are picked up regularly by Adelaide Cemeteries. Great care is taken to ensure that tributes are handled with care during this process, which varies slightly from one cemetery to another: At Enfield Memorial Park floral tributes are picked up on the last Tuesday of each month to allow for maintenance. Tributes are carefully placed in the racks on the... edges of our gardens, and remain in these racks for one week should families wish to collect them or replace them on a site. At Smithfield Memorial Park floral tributes are picked up during the last week of each month, with signage placed in the gardens one week prior to this activity is taking place so that families wishing to collect floral tributes themselves are given notice. At Cheltenham Cemetery floral tributes are picked up during the last week of each month. At West Terrace Cemetery, due to the unique nature of the cemetery and its gardens, pickup of floral tributes is not carried out and removal of flowers is the responsibility of families. Public Holidays, special events and extreme weather may alter the timing of flower pickups on occasion. Call Adelaide Cemeteries Authority for more information - 8139 7400.
