Super stoked to see this baby, one of the last sub $1000 custom ebike build/conversions that left the first f...rankencycle workshop about 3 years ago with the awesome owner Anne. 01.01.2022 Poor man's Schlumpf? After finding that the customers pre purchased vintage Hammerschmidt could not be mounted on the fighter frame, I needed to come up with an alternative to reduce cadence at higher 18s speeds.... The working result consists of an oversized square taper bb (can't remember the dimensions dammit) approx 1 cm longer on drive side, to support a road spider with 52 tooth outer chain ring, spaced wit tabs cut from another worn chain ring, with a 36 inner chain r...ing. Gear "selection" done manually. .. stop bike, get off, relocate chain from one ring to other by hand, with expectation inner ring used only in unexpected no power situations. Could probably fit up to 54 tooth on outer... clearance issue with swing arm. .. great frame design sees no issue with ring to frame clearance on suspension compression. Rear single 13tooth cog courtesy SamD... wanted to retain the smaller toothed freewheel to squeeze out as low a cadence as possible. .. to stop chain slip, rear derailleur stop removed allowing it to rotate forward to achieve better chain wrap and alleviate chain skip. Long cage on derailleur to handle chain slack from large to small gear. Freewheel cog sides ground down to enable fit of 8 speed chain... max chain width derailleur allows (single speed chain to wide to fit in cage.) Result works... no chain skip ... Top speed still a bit fast to pedal at (no idea but estimate around 80km/h) .. 60km/h still able to keep up with motor. About to take out approx 4 links from chain for better tension Now time to hand back to customer to see how it performs under a bit of pounding. Joe from frankencycle
