19.01.2022 When governments, fire agencies and communities work together, we can better understand and manage our bushfire risk. Today was the first of many Red Hot Tips d...emonstration burns - this time at the Hazelwood property at Copping in the south of the state. Following a workshop on Friday night, a bunch of landholders got together today to learn the practicals of how to burn safely and effectively to ultimately reduce the risk to themselves and others. If you are responsible for a large tract of land in Tassie and would like to build some confidence to burn on your property, get in touch with the Red Hot Tips team: www.sfmc.tas.gov.au/redhottips

18.01.2022 Boxing Day Dance Sadly with the COVID restrictions it is not possible for us to have the annual Boxing Day Dance. So for the first time in memory there will be no Boxing Day Dance at the Frankford Soldiers Memorial Hall.

18.01.2022 Two cold fronts will bring an early taste of winter this weekend across SA, Victoria, Tasmania and parts of NSW, bringing an abrupt end to some unusually warm... days. By Sunday, snow levels will drop to 700-800m in Tasmania, and 900-1000m in Victoria, NSW and the ACT. The first cold front will move through from Thursday evening and into Friday morning with a band of rain and showers. Maximums will pull back to 2-5 C below average on Friday across southern SA, Victoria, Tasmania and southern NSW. The cold air will push further north into NSW and SA during Saturday. The second, stronger front is forecast to move across the southeast from Saturday morning. Maximums will drop to 4-8 C below average with this front, but icy and blustery south-westerly winds will make it feel much colder. For most across the region, it will be the coldest day of the year so far. Hazardous surf conditions will follow the front, with wave heights reaching 6-8m for SA and western Victoria, reaching 8-10m across western Tasmania from Saturday. Hazardous surf conditions will extend along parts of the NSW coast during Sunday. Showers and cool air will persist into early next week, drying out from Tuesday before the next cold front arrives. 18.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

17.01.2022 Our regular weeding working bee on the Paper Beach track is on again this Sunday. It is amazing the change that volunteers can make to an area! Over the past 12... months or so our monthly gatherings have taken gorse and other woody weeds out of nearly 1.2km of the track! If you want to join in, meet us at the Paper Beach car park at Swan Point, at 2pm this Sunday. The Landcare Trailer will be in site as a mobile landmark. We can supply tools, gloves and herbicide. Wear sturdy clothes and sensible shoes. We dont work hard, we make sure the things we do are safe and enjoyable for all!

16.01.2022 **REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE** Hi All, A beautiful, healthy female Tasmanian devil was hit and killed last night/this morning by a car on Frankford road, Exeter, d...irectly across from Kerrison's Road. She was hit on the far side from Kerrison's road, but looked like she may have been about to cross towards Kerrison's road when she was hit. The incident has been reported to the devil roadkill team. The issue is, she had 4 mammaries engorged with milk. She has imps that still need her. If your property is surrounding that area, I ask if you could keep an eye out for imps on your properties that may be out at times that they shouldn't be, or appear to be emaciated. It's a long shot, as devils tend to hide their young well. But just hoping we can get the message out. If you do happen to find them, please contact Bonorong's emergency wildlife line 0447 264 625. Please share with anyone in that region. Thank you all xx (Photo for attention).

16.01.2022 If you did not get a chance to catch up with Janie on Saturday and want to ask her a question pop on over to her page.

12.01.2022 While our priority has been on keeping Tasmanians safe from COVID-19, we've been just as focused on protecting Tasmanians from the threat of bushfires. Today we released new legislation for consultation, designed to protect life, property, infrastructure and our natural assets.

11.01.2022 Dear Valued Clients It is with a heavy heart that after 7 years, we have made the difficult decision to close Exeter Animal Hospital as of midday June 30 2020.... I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of such a friendly and vibrant town. I wish to thank my many kind and loyal clients who have supported me over the years. We have shared many laughs, hugs and tears and I will cherish these memories. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful husband Andrew and little boy Isaac for their constant love and support. Also my beautiful mum, who many of you would know, worked tirelessly at the clinic for 6 years and my dad who is probably my biggest fan and always willing to help when needed. I would also like to thank my amazing support staff, nurses and student volunteers past and present that have always given their best to help care for our furry patients. I do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or distress that this closure may cause. Please be patient with us as we try to make your transition to alternative veterinary care as seamless as possible. On a practical note for the remainder of the month our services will be limited to consultation only. In addition all medication and food orders will need to be finalised by Friday the 26th of June. Thanks again for allowing me to be part of yours and your animals lives. I wish you all the best for the future. May God Bless You. Kind Regards Dr Marcia Templar

04.01.2022 With the festive and holiday season in full swing now is not a time to become complacent. COVID-safe behaviours protect lives. You can help protect yourself, yo...ur family, friends and neighbours by following just a few simple steps: 1) Stay at least 1.5 metres away from others when outside your home. 2) Wash your hands often with soap and warm, running water. Use alcohol-based hand sanitiser when out. 3) Stay at home if you are unwell and always cover your coughs and sneezes. 4) Get tested for COVID-19 if you have any cold or flu-like symptoms. 5) Be aware of, and follow, current gathering business and travel restrictions. Remember that it takes all of us to take care of all of us. Visit: www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/COVID-safe

02.01.2022 The health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians has been our number one priority throughout COVID-19. It's also important that we provide businesses with as muc...h certainty as possible for their planning. This is why we have announced that our border restrictions will remain in place for another three months, allowing enough time for the situation in other states to be brought under control
