24.01.2022 This photo is a devastating example of why people must ensure they don't leave flammable items too close to heaters and fire places. Crews from Franklin and Huonville were called to a fire just after 1:30pm yesterday to find this two bedroom home engulfed in flames and collapsed on the ground. Fire investigators this morning determined that clothing and other flammable items had been left too close to a woodheater and caught alight.... Tasmania Fire Service responds to over 350 house fires each year, with heating being the second most common cause. When heaters are on and fireplaces are lit, flammable items must be kept at least two metres away. For information about how to keep safe in your home this winter visit the Tasmania Fire Service website: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colHomeFireSafety #twometresfromtheheater

24.01.2022 ATTENTION PLEASE Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notified about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today.... The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.

19.01.2022 If you’re heading away camping or to the shack this weekend, make sure you’re prepared for the conditions. Conditions are going to be hot and windy over the coming days. Vegetation is dry and fires will be difficult to control. A total fire ban is in force from 2am on Saturday through to 2am on Tuesday for all municipalities in the southern and northern region.... Some tips to keep you safe: if you’re heading away, make sure you know the local bushfire risk where you’re going- if you’re going anywhere in or near the bush on the eastern side of the State, there is a bushfire risk. check out the Community Bushfire Protection Plan for the area you’re going, and use that to develop a Bushfire Survival Plan. http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show comply with the total fire ban. All big fires started small, so don’t think you can risk it. The risk is too high and the consequences are great. be aware of local conditions and monitor ABC Local Radio and www.fire.tas.gov.au for warnings and advice during a fire. Be safe.

19.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather conditions. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

13.01.2022 Tasmanians need to be prepared for challenging fire weather conditions towards the end of this week as hot temperatures, north-westerly winds and low humidity is expected to push the fire danger to severe in parts of the state. The forecast has triggered a total fire ban to be declared for Thursday and Friday for all municipalities in the south, and Northern Midlands and Break O’Day in the north. A total fire ban means it is illegal to light or to cause a fire to start in the... open air. This includes (but is not limited to) incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The total fire ban applies to the following municipalities from 2am Thursday 30 January until 2am Saturday 1 February: Brighton, Break O'Day, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Northern Midlands, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman. More information on Total Fire Bans and incidents in your area can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au or by listening to ABC Radio.

13.01.2022 Many bushfires TFS crews have responded to already this season have started by out-of-control burn-offs conducted by landholders on private property, or previous burns that have flared up in windy, dry conditions. Rather than burning cubic metre piles at this time of year, TFS is encouraging people to consider other methods for disposing vegetation waste. It is too dry, the risk is too great and the consequences too high.... Landowners who have recently had fires on their property must keep checking them to ensure they are completely extinguished. If a fire escapes your property, you will be liable for any damage caused.

12.01.2022 Monday 30/12/2019 Fire weather for our area is extreme please be prepared and keep up to date with warnings

It is believed the vehicle, while travelling in convey, hit a tree before rolling off the road.... Another three Firefighters have received injuries as a result of the accident. Our thoughts are with all the Firefighter’s family, friends and fellow brigade members. This is an absolutely devastating event in what has already been an incredibly difficult day and fire season.
