17.01.2022 ROAD POLICING OPERATION - Melbourne Cup long weekend 1st -5th November 2019 Operation Furlong 2019 is a state-wide road policing operation scheduled for the Mel...bourne Cup long weekend. The operation will commence on Friday 1-Nov-2019 and finish on Tuesday 5-Nov-2019. The Melbourne Cup public holiday is on Tuesday 5-Nov-2019. A number of major events are held around the state during the Melbourne Cup long weekend. Several regional centres hold their own race days (which can form part of the Spring Racing Carnival) as well as various festivals. The major focus for the operation will be on speed, fatigue, impaired driving, distraction offences and seatbelt compliance. The aim, in addition to detecting offences, is to provide a highly visible and mobile police presence to reinforce positive driving behaviours and lessen the incidence of road trauma. This year too many families have lost their loved ones on our roads, particularly in country areas, and this trend simply must stop. (Current Road Toll is 230 lives lost on our roads compared to 172 at this time last year) We urge everyone to think consciously about the choices they make and their behaviour on the road. If you know youll be drinking, arrange your alternate transport accordingly take a taxi or ride share, hop on public transport or designate a responsible driver. We all have a responsibility, not only to ourselves but to each other, to take care. Geelong and Surf coast residence will be aware of the horror weekend we had on our local roads just last weekend, expect Police will be out and about conducting breath and drug tests and intercepting vehicles. If youre using your phone behind the wheel, or drink and drug driving, be warned you will get caught.

07.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM THE BOSS AT GEELONG HIGHWAY PATROL REGARDING THIS LONG WEEKEND Geelong Police will be taking part in a long weekend traffic operation focussing o...n Road Safety. Operation Scoreboard will be a high visibility operation targeting all major and feeder roads in and around Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast areas. You can expect to be breath and or drug tested during the operation which runs from Thursday night until Monday morning. We are targeting drink/drug drivers and speeding offences. Our intelligence also suggests that speed and distraction are the major causes of fatal and serious injury collisions. We urge everyone to do the right thing, take breaks if you need them and dont drive if you are affected by alcohol or drugs. We want everyone to enjoy the long weekend and urge everyone to drive carefully and responsibly in what will be a busy weekend in and around Geelong.
