20.01.2022 #MediaRelease This Wednesday, internationally bestselling author, Matthew Reilly, joins Frankston City Libraries, live via Zoom from Los Angeles, for an epic FrankTALK about his latest release, The Two Lost Mountains. Against all odds, Jack West Jr found the Three Secret Cities but at a heartbreaking cost. With his rivals far ahead of him, Jack must now get to one of the five iron mountains - two of which have never been found - and perform a mysterious feat known only as ...'The Fall'. Amid all this, Jack will discover that a new player has entered the race, a general so feared by the four legendary kingdoms, they had him locked away in their deepest dungeon. Only now this general has escaped and he has a horrifying plan of his own. Matthew Reilly is the internationally bestselling author of the Scarecrow novels, the Jack West novels, and the standalone novels Contest, Temple, Hover Car Racer, The Tournament, Troll Mountain, The Great Zoo of China and The Secret Runners of New York His books are published in more than 20 languages, with over 7 million copies sold worldwide. Frankston City Libraries Manager, Tammy Beauchamp, encouraged residents to book in for the special event which will be held at 6pm tomorrow. It is brilliant that we can continue to bring internationally acclaimed authors to our community through the FrankTALK sessions. We are so lucky to have Matthew Reilly tuning in all the way from Los Angeles so be sure you don’t miss this special online event tomorrow night. This session is free but bookings are essential: library.frankston.vic.gov.au/whatson #FransktonCity #Libraries #FrankTalk

20.01.2022 , Our community was deeply saddened yesterday evening, to hear that a local man had lost his life following an incident in Seaford. On behalf of Council, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family. As a Council and a community, our thoughts are with them at this terrible time.... We are dedicated to continuing our work in partnership with agencies including Public Transport Victoria and Victoria Police, to address the anti-social behaviour which has been taking place at our coastal suburbs since the lifting of travel restrictions and onset of warmer weather. The safety of those who live in, and visit, these residential areas is our priority, which is why we have increased beach patrols on hot days, are supporting Victoria Police’s Operation Summer Safe and have installed 31 additional CCTV cameras across the City, including in the Seaford area. We understand there is more to be done and will continue to introduce further safety measures in collaboration with the police and the community. If you witness anti-social behaviour in any form, please call 000. #FrankstonCity

19.01.2022 All our hard work is finally being rewarded, as our wonderful city starts to open back up and just in time for some beautiful spring weather The Premier announced on Monday hospitality businesses could reopen from 11:59pm on Tuesday 27 October, with capacity limits and COVID safe plans in place for indoor and outdoor dining. While some cafes and restaurants have chosen not to open immediately, others have the potential to take advantage of kerbside dining, parklets and... potential laneway closures to create more dining spaces. We are working with businesses across Frankston and surrounding suburbs to help feed your hunger for a little hospitality. Assisting businesses not already geared up for outdoor dining to adapt to the current restrictions and build out an amazing outdoor offering for you to enjoy We welcomed the State Government’s recent announcement that provided planning exemptions to enable expanded outdoor dining into public spaces, without the need for a permit. See our latest media release here: https://bit.ly/3jDNymz Businesses wishing to extend seating into public spaces outside their private land boundary will still be required to apply for a permit from Council, however in a further effort to support local business, no fees will be charged Our team is working overtime to contact local hospitality operators, to discuss their options and understand where and if they need help adapting. Businesses who require support are encouraged to contact Council’s Business Concierge email [email protected] or phone 1300 322 322 To learn more about expanding your eatery’s outdoor dining, visit: www.frankston.vic.gov.au/ExtendedOutdoorDining #FrankstonCity #COVID19 #EnjoyEveryMoment #LiveableCity

18.01.2022 Auslan interpreters help deaf Frankston residents thrive The City of Frankston has the second highest concentration of sign language users in the state, with i...ts population doubling in the decade leading up to 2011 alone. Major events in Australia have rocketed the profile and significance of Auslan sign language, with an unmissable presence of interpreters alongside breaking news bulletins. Since the start of this year, Expression Australia has experienced an 80 per cent increase in interest in its Auslan classes. Auslan interpreter and ex- Frankston City Council employee Emma,27, (pictured) said she took on a diploma of Auslan at Melbourne Polytechnic so she could to contribute to increasing access and inclusion in the area. Emma was awarded Melbourne Polytechnic Outstanding Vocational Education and Training Foundation Student of the Year last year and now works as Language Services Coordinator with Auslan Connections. "While working for the local council it became clear to me how critical it is that government services are made accessible and inclusive for members of the deaf community," she said. "There is a cultural gap between deaf and hearing people, and its important for people like myself to work to bridge that. It wasnt until I started to learn Auslan that I realised being able to hear is a privilege not granted to everyone. "Having access to emergency warnings, being able to watch live media updates and having access to information in my first language are privileges that my deaf friends, more often than not, do not have the same access to. Melbourne Polytechnic has adapted to a remote delivery model to continue to deliver its Auslan courses throughout 2020 in response to coronavirus. For more information on the Auslan course, visit www.melbournepolytechnic.edu.au/study/auslan

01.01.2022 20 seconds is all it takes for a child to drown. Supervision is constant visual contact with your child. Make sure you are in a position to respond quickly by keeping children under 5 years within arms’ reach and children under 10 years always be in sight. Supervision is not an occasional glance while you read or undertake household chores, and it is not looking outside at your kids playing while you are inside.... Supervision Tip: Minimise any temptation to leave a child unsupervised near water by having everything ready before bathing your child or going for a swim (i.e. towels, sunscreen, dry clothes, phone etc.) #FrankstonCity #duckwatch #watersafetyweek2020 #PISBTW #watersafety #safersummer #childsupervision
