24.01.2022 It's appalling that this fire disaster has happened. Too late to fix it now but 6 weeks ago when it started maybe it could have been. I think an Inquiry is needed into what NPs did or failed to do about the environmental and financial disaster. It's time to open Orchid Beach and the east coast again!!!

23.01.2022 Went to Sandy Cape and at Ngahla Rocks bog hole we had a hold up. Went forward and no need to give advise as it was being given by my newest best friend. Mr 4...x4, Pat Callahan. We were together with identical advice and help. Nice to get the thumbs up from Pat as we headed north later to catch more fish. See more

22.01.2022 Another great day at sandy cape, ran into Pat Callinan (MR 4x4) shooting his TV series. Pete as normal had a chat with him and offered various advice to him, Pa...t was very appreciative. Plenty of fish, dart and whiting today. Fresh dart for dinner tonight The wind changed to a howling southeaster after lunch. This looked liked it has pushed the fires back towards the lighthouse and Rooney point. Came across a dingo near a freshly laid turtle nest, hope the eggs survive Was lovely to see a turtle come up for air at the cape. Having a relaxing day tomorrow, then if the weather is fine on Friday we will have one last visit to the cape before coming home on Saturday See more

16.01.2022 Travelled home from Fraser Island today, left at 5.30 QLD time this morning to drive the 100 kms at the low tide, beach was perfect. Saw the devastation of the recent fires around Cathedral Beach

04.01.2022 Chris, Jodie, Lucas and Sophie came for coffee this morning. We found the totem tennis pole and rackets and the games began. We all participated and competition was strong. So much fun

03.01.2022 Last day today on Fraser Island, leaving early tomorrow. The cape was no good for fishing today so we headed back to waddy point and set up camp for a few hours, lovely and relaxing

03.01.2022 The brig Stirling Castle has played a major part in Queensland (and Australian) history. She was launched in 1829 and wrecked on this day in 1836 on Eliza R...eef on passage from Sydney for Singapore and Manila. Before her fateful voyage, the Stirling Castle had sailed from Scotland to Sydney in 1831 with John Dunmore Lang's "mechanics" with the intention to build the Australian College and the founding members of the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts. One family on board this trip was the Petrie family that became prominent in Queensland after arriving in Moreton Bay penal settlement in 1837. The Stirling Castle was under the command of Captain James Fraser, when she ran aground on 21st May 1836 on the Swain Reefs (near present-day Rockhampton, Queensland) while travelling from Sydney to Singapore. The surviving members of the crew, including Fraser and his wife Eliza, managed to journey to the nearby K'gari Island, where they camped for several days before being taken into the camps of the local indigenous Butchulla people. James Fraser died (accounts differ as to whether he died due to starvation, or as a result of being speared), but some members of his crew survived and were later rescued by a Lt. Charles Otter. Lloyd's List reported on 14 March 1837 that Stirling Castle, Fraser (late), master, had been totally lost on Eliza Reef. Eliza Fraser later returned to England, where her services as a storyteller proved to be very much in demand. In memory of Fraser, K'gari Island was renamed Fraser Island after this incident, though it is still known as K'gari by the Butchulla. Indigenous author Larissa Behrendt has written Finding Eliza: power and colonial storytelling about this chapter in our history. (Words and sketches from Wikipedia)

03.01.2022 Here's something you don't see every day! With no visitors on Fraser Island, this little fellow decided to come and spend some time at the beach. : Fraser Island Retreat/Jennifer O'Shea

01.01.2022 Fresh turtle tracks and nest today, but unfortunately a dingo has found the nest.
