25.01.2022 A positive news story this morning from Visit Fraser Island
25.01.2022 This week, we welcome back Chris Parsons and the Weekender crew to Visit Fraser Coast, for more filming as part of our Summer Campaign 2020/21. A big thank you to all of our operators who have got involved in this campaign - we can't wait until the episodes go to air early next year! On Monday, the crew enjoyed a morning out on the water with BOAB Boats Hervey Bay, wakeboarding near #fraserisland, and spent the night at the tranquil Sanctuary Lakes Fauna Retreat. ... This morning, the team filmed a lunchtime cook-up with our local Tourism Ambassadors, Dan, Steph + Emmy at Ingenia Holidays, before heading off to Kingfisher Bay Resort for the night. Keep your eyes peeled as the team continues filming across the week, departing the region on Friday afternoon. The crew will return early November to wrap up filming for the remaining three segments. #visitfrasercoast

24.01.2022 **This warning is no longer current. Please check the QFES Facebook page for updated information.** PREPARE TO LEAVE: Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village (part of... the K’gari, Fraser Island bushfire) as at 10.15am Tues 1 Dec Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire near the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village on K’gari (Fraser Island) and conditions could get worse. There is a separate warning for residents on K'gari (Fraser Island). Residents should refer to this warning for further information. Any person at the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village should follow the directions of Queensland Fire and Emergency Service or Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service officers. You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, or intend to leave, you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly. Currently as at 10.15am Tues Dec 1 a bushfire is travelling from south from Boon Boon Creek towards the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village. Water bombing is occurring to slow the spread of the fire. Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe your property is under threat. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. If you have a bushfire survival plan, finalise it now so you are ready to follow it. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if you leave the area. Advise family and friends of your plan. Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by. Drive with caution in low visibility conditions. Contact your neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire. Pack important documents and essential items (e.g., passports, birth certificates, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing) in case you need to leave the area. Put on protective clothing (e.g., a long-sleeved cotton shirt, boots with thick soles). Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Bring pets inside; restrain them with a leash, a cage, or inside a secure room; and provide them with plenty of water. Take action to protect your livestock. Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins, and outdoor furniture away from your house. Fill containers such as your bath, sinks, and buckets with water so you have access to drinking water and firefighting water. Close windows and doors, sealing the gaps under doors and screens with wet towels to keep smoke out of the house. KEEP UP TO DATE BY: Following QFES on Facebook (@QldFireandEmergencyServices) and Twitter (@QldFES) Staying tuned to your local radio station. Find your local ABC radio station at https://radio.abc.net.au/help/offline and your local commercial radio station at http://www.commercialradio.com.au/find-a-station/queensland; Visiting the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website at www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/map FURTHER INFORMATION: For bushfire preparation tips, visit the RFS website: www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/BushFire_Safety For information about road closures, call 13 19 40 or visit www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au The next update will be provided by 12.15pm or if the situation change
23.01.2022 Welcome back Kingfisher Bay Resort
23.01.2022 The Queensland Government recently updated the legislation surrounding the use of rest areas on state-controlled roads. This was due to ongoing issues with motorists, campervans and caravans illegally parking at Queensland heavy vehicle rest areas and overstaying at combined rest areas. Motorists can now be fined if they park in designated heavy vehicle rest stops or overstay at combined rest area locations. For more information visit www.qld.gov.au/restareas. For rest area ...sites or traffic information, please visit QLDTraffic www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au, download the QLD Traffic app or phone 131940 for further assistance. Your support in helping make our roads safer, particularly for our heavy vehicle drivers is very much appreciated.

21.01.2022 "Get in The Swim" by Ken McDonald "I originally wrote this fun song in 2019 after joining the Humpbacks Masters Swimming Club at Hervey Bay. There are a significant number of swimming groups here. I also used to sail at Hervey Bay as a teenager. In recent times, some friends and I have been paddling the Moonaboola (Mary) River. It has become clearer that this region has spectacular waterways so I rewrote the lyrics to include many of the water sports. Some of the Cool Country Music Club members kindly helped record it on a couple of handicams."

18.01.2022 Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour hopes visitors will be able to return to Fraser Island next week. MORE: https://ab.co/3mYipg7 "Plans are underway right now to... reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, whether it's Kingfisher Bay Resort, whether it's Orchid Beach or Happy Valley or camping on the beach," he said. "Plans are underway to make sure that as soon as it's safe it will be reopened and I'm hopeful that will be next week." QFES Chief Superintendent James Gill said spirits were high among crews on the island and he shared the mayor's optimism. "No final decision has been made but I think it's fairly imminent," Superintendent Gill said.

17.01.2022 An update to our friends at Cathedrals on Fraser: "Thanks to a successful backburn conducted by QPWS last night, our campground is now protected from fire in all directions. While the fire continues to burn to our south, so far all of the island's infrastructure and major attractions remain unaffected. Our thoughts are now with Kingfisher Bay Resort and everyone at Happy Valley."
17.01.2022 The island, people and businesses here are resilient. Thank you to everyone working hard to put this fire out.
17.01.2022 Thanks for popping by, Annastacia Palaszczuk MP!
17.01.2022 The passing of Fraser Island tourism pioneer Sid Melksham has had a profound effect on those many people on the Fraser Coast who knew him and worked with him. FCTE has created this special post, adding our tribute to the many that have been received acknowledging Sid’s great contribution to the region. "Sid Melksham’s death represents the passing of a legend and one of the first entrepreneurs in 1959 with the vision to establish tourism on Fraser Island’s eastern surf coast. With little education, he first taught himself to read and write, moving on to build and drive boats, barges, planes, and helicopters. He is remembered with great fondness by the many people who worked with him to make his Fraser dream a reality, opening up the island for all to enjoy", FCTE General Manager Martin Simons said. Vale Sid Melksham.

15.01.2022 UPDATED ROADMAP
14.01.2022 Due to on-going deteriorating conditions with the current fire on Fraser Island, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES has closed the island for the nex...t few days. We will not be taking bookings or sending any customers to the Island over the next few days until the island open again. For anyone that does have bookings with us, we will be in contact with you if these bookings need to change. We are absolutely devasted by the destruction of the fire, both from an environmental perspective and also a tourism perspective. Many operators within the Fraser Coast have undergone severe hardship this year with COVID-19 and travel/ border restrictions and now the on-going spread of the fire has resulted in the island closure. We send our appreciation and thoughts to those on the ground working to control and fire and are doing our 'rain dance' in hope of some rain within the next few weeks. From the Fraser Dingo Team. Photo from ABC Brisbane.
13.01.2022 To access current park alerts and associated conditions reports before the official reopening tomorrow, December 15, please visit https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/kgari-fraser This will be updated regularly over the next few weeks/months during the island's recovery process. #fraserisland

12.01.2022 Wildfires update from our General Manager: "While water bombers have done amazing work on containing the #FraserIsland fires around the Cathedrals this week, for the resorts and tour operations to the south it has been business as usual. The majority of tourists visiting the island this week were not affected understandable in an island stretching 124km north to south. For the most part and depending on the prevailing wind, the fires, which have been travelling south or no...rth for the past month, burning in remote and largely inaccessible areas. The island’s resorts and major attractions including Lake McKenzie, Central Station, Lake Birrabeen and Lake Wabby are all open, as are the Western Fraser tours to Wathumba Creek, Pelican Bank and Coongul Creek. While Cathedrals on Fraser is back up and running , some camps grounds on the western side remain closed, including Bowal , Awinya, Bowarrady and Woralie. Those planning camping trips are advised to seek updated information on the National Parks website https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/."
12.01.2022 QTIC Event to Replace 2020 Queensland Tourism Awards COVID has caused massive disruption and upset for everyone. It also forced the Queensland Tourism Industry Council to cancel this year’s Queensland Tourism Awards and the big event that normally brings the industry together every year around this time. However, QTIC is ready to ‘get on with it’, celebrate what is great about our industry, our people and our state! And with the easing of restrictions for events, QTIC will h...ost a very special replacement event for the tourism community on Friday 13 November the Tourism Village Celebration. There will be no awards to celebrate, rather, an event to bring together our community, our ‘village’, in an uplifting event to reconnect, re-energise and inspire the industry. QTIC will be joined by industry leaders, hopefully the next Queensland Tourism Minister, many stakeholders and exciting Queensland entertainment talent for a memorable evening. The team look forward to announcing an exclusive line-up of acts in the coming weeks! QTIC encourages you to invite your partner, friends and colleagues and join us in supporting the tourism, event and entertainment industries of Queensland. https://brisbanetickets.com.au/event/11973
12.01.2022 We’re after workers to give it a go... Loads of Queensland tourism and hospitality businesses are looking for staff right now. The Queensland Government is working closely with the tourism industry to rebuild the sector, including the 234,000 jobs it supports, to ensure a rapid and enduring recovery from the impacts of COVID-19. With the easing of interstate border restrictions and warmer weather, we are anticipating a resurgence and increased demand for Queensland tou...rism offerings, and a strong tourism workforce is needed to support it. The new digital campaign ‘Give it a Go in Queensland’ aims to promote the thousands of unfilled tourism and hospitality jobs currently available in the hope of uniting potential employees with their next employer. Where possible, we want Queenslanders to take up these jobs. But there are so many positions up for grabs, we’re also widening the search to other states. Job opportunities available range from cleaners to business managers, hospitality roles, tour guides, pilots, deckhands, finance specialists, travel agents and event managers, in enviable locations including the Fraser Coast. On the Give it a Go website you will find links to job opportunities, travel incentives and training options to help you find and prepare for your dream tourism job. Program partners Queensland Rail and national coach operator Greyhound Australia have come onboard to ensure cheap and easy travel for new tourism workers around the state. Give it a Go jobseekers would the entitled to a $300 discount to get to their employment destination with Greyhound Queensland. The Working in Queensland WhimIt pass will be valid for 90 days and available for purchase until 31 January 2021 at $399. In addition, Queensland Rail’s Regional Workforce fare will offer 60% off one-way fares for travel along the coast from Brisbane up to Cairns. This offer will be available for purchase until 31 January 2021. Tourism operators, island resorts and hotels are also offering staff enviable benefits including onsite accommodation, higher duties for upskilling, and industry discounts not to mention access and encouragement to explore some of Queensland’s most glorious destinations in their free time. And even better, for many of these opportunities jobseekers don’t need any experience, they just need to be looking for experience.
