21.01.2022 PAID ADVERTISING DURING A CRISIS . Are you uncertain about how to manage your paid marketing during COVID-19? Well, you are not alone . Some are thriving (think essentials and panic buying), and others are dramatically declining (think events and social distancing). But the overall revenue of most e-Commerce accounts we manage have remained stable thus far ... . Research from the US has shown that although Return On Ad Spend (ROAS) is declining, the Cost Per 1,000 Impression (CPM) is lowering. This means it's cheaper to reach people with your message, but they may not convert RIGHT NOW (hold that thought) during this uncertain time . It was also reported since the on-set of COVID-19, China has seen an increase in time spent online by 20% . So what does this all mean? It mean dont dismiss your digital strategy and communication during this time - just pivot! People are self-isolating and turning to digital platforms for interaction. Content can also be time-consuming, expensive and difficult to get your message across in a simple static image or short video across multiple platforms. To maximise your investment in content creation you must have a strategy that reinforces your brand key messages through creative storytelling on a number of levels We like to divide our conte...nt strategies into three levels: 1 Low investment content: This content will ensure you are updating your audience consistently with value add information. They are inexpensive to create and usually come in the form of static images or re-posted user-generated content 2 Medium investment: This content focuses in on your key brand messages. Are you sustainable? Do you support women in business? Do you create locally? These are key brand values that your audience will relate too. They don’t change too much and are short and snappy. They can be presented as animations or graphically designed tiles and re-purposed over time 3 High investment content: This content has the highest level of storytelling capabilities. The number one takeaway was to ensure you are feeding the algorithm with as much content as possible so it has something to serve your audience at the right time This could be different creative formats (video, static image, carousel & slideshow) as well as different messages (bestsellers, new in, reviews). Ditch all of the extra words and get straight to the point. Most copywriters recommend writing at a 7th grade level so you are not hiding the key message in words designed to win an essay competition.
