25.01.2022 MEADOW SPRINGS HOUSE CAPTAINS’ VISIT TO PARLIAMENT HOUSE On Tuesday 17 November, the Meadow Springs House Captains took a trip to Parliament House with Mrs Renee Goard and Mrs Leanne Bakewell. After travelling up to Perth by train, Kaiden Buss-Dawson, Brock Caporn, Zara Day, Andrew Gilleece, Poornitha Godavarti, Cohen Grbavac, Kyara Grove, Tilly Holloway, ... Reilly Hull, Amelia McGowan, Malcolm Sharp and Lily Wright were lucky enough to meet with the Premier, Mr Mark McGowan, in his personal Parliamentary Office. After a treasure hunt around the perimeter of Parliament House, they were invited to enjoy lunch in the Members’ Dining Room with the Member for Mandurah, the Hon David Templeman MLA. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience; it was something they will never forget and was a great acknowledgement of the hard work they have done in 2020 as Primary House Captains.

25.01.2022 YEAR 5 STUDENTS’ ECO COMMITTEE Year 5 students from the Primary Eco Committee sat down with Principal, Ms Kerry Robertson, to discuss their ideas on the School’s current water policy. 24.01.2022 TEAM SPORT IS BACK! Our students are super happy! Finally, sport is back after all the social restrictions and social isolation resulting from the impacts of the COVID-19 virus. Moving into Phase 4 of the WA Roadmap to Recovery means we are able to play competitive sports again. Frederick Irwin Anglican School currently has 42 teams of students participating in Basketball (MBA), Hockey (PHA), Netball (MNA) and Soccer (PJSA). As a school community, we are very thankful to all... the volunteers, from all associations, who have worked extremely hard in difficult circumstances to enable our students to be back playing sport again; although, for some associations, this looks very different to what we are used to. It is not time for complacency, however, as we must ensure we support all associations with whatever restrictions remain in place. Please support all those volunteers who are making sport for our students possible so that we minimise the risk of a second wave of COVID-19 and potential suspension of sport again. Go Freddies! Written by Mr Peter Skeggs Head of Health and Physical Education

After two terms of missed opportunities for our athletes in 2020, yesterday was a timely reminder of just how talented our students are at Frederick Irwin Anglican School. Michael Baker went back to back in his 1500m and 800m races, channelled the support from ...the grandstand and managed to pip his competitors on the line in both events. Jaime Skeggs played a brilliant match and was tough from the outset of the game. She was assisted in de...fence by Angelina Dimasi who worked tirelessly throughout the game. The other two Year 12s, Maddy Gillett and Holly Meares, were also instrumental in defence, sweeping the boards and initiating their fast break play. Crystal Sing came on from the bench and played her role to a tee, scoring on more than one occasion and running the floor hard in offence and defence. Another pleasing aspect of the team game was the play from Year 10 students, Sydney Meares and Felicity Gillett, who played beyond their years and were influential in both defence and offence. Thanks to Daniel Riegert and Sam Harder, who refereed the game, as well as the spectators who came to the game to cheer on the girls. Congratulations to the team. 05.01.2022 SCHOOL SPORT HOCKEY DAVID BELL COMPETITION On Monday 24 August, 12 student players (and one student umpire) made their way to the Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin to participate in the David Bell Cup. The team played five games against very strong competition including a specialist hockey school. Although they only managed one win across the day, the games were fast, furious and very close; the opposition were definitely keeping an eye on them.... The players are to be commended for good sportsmanship and determined attitudes throughout the day. A big 'thank you' also to Lara Strbac (Year 12), who was our umpire and Mrs Burnside, Mr Booker, Mr and Mrs van Zyl for being our drivers and cheer squad for the day!

05.01.2022 Our Year 10 Outdoor Education students completed their annual camp in the Margaret River Region during Week 3 of Term 4. Students camped at Sue’s Bridge, Jarrahdene and Conto Spring campsites and activities included bushwalking, sea kayaking, mountain biking, canoeing, abseiling and climbing, surfing and caving. Students worked in small groups and were responsible for the preparation of menus along with the purchase and packing of all their own food; plus preparation and co...oking of all their groups’ own meals for the four day camp. Even more challenging was that they were restricted to non-perishable items and a Trangia stove for cooking. As a school community we can be extremely proud of the manner in which our students, managed themselves and supported the Outdoor Education Programme over the four days. We now look forward to the Year 11 Outdoor Education Expeditions in Week 6, our final expedition experiences for 2020.
