16.01.2022 Last night was more than likely the last hurrah at Highlander, where I have been running Open Mic comedy and curating MICF and Fringe seasons for the past 3 yea...rs. We kicked off proceedings with an AGM for Awkward Giraffe, a small not for profit charity I have chaired for the past 18 months. I was setting up the PA to get ready to play a few tunes with Michelle Wilson Butler at the conclusion of the AGM and discovered that the note 'C' on my guitar was causing horrific feedback problems. C is an important and oft used chord in many songs. Upon going to my guitar case get the trusty Feedback Buster one uses in these situations, I discovered I had left it at home... Panic ensued, so I raced upstairs to find anything to cover the sound hole with. Lo and behold, tucked away in a drawer, were a box of flyers from when we launched Awkward Giraffe in October 2019. The face on the flyer is Eurydice Jane Dixon, who is the sole reason AG exists. But I wasn't home and hosed yet. I had nothing to hold the flyer in place. I rifled through my bag of leads and pedals and found a home made violin bracket I made in 2007 at the Edinburgh Fringe that I keep with me for some strange reason. It hasn't been used in years I stripped the original gaffa tape from it and taped the flyer in place. It was still sticky after 13 years. Problem solved. No more feedback. We played a solid set with Eurydice standing sentry just beneath 6 resonating strings. Stories like this are what make show business the exhilarating ride it quite often is.

A couple of people who know their comedy and showed up... to watch last night said as much to me. The all pervasive culture that has grown up around other rooms over the past decade in Melbourne has not affected what we continue to do. We stand alone. We're the best by far. It's important work. I played footy for Elsternwick, played tunes with Jam...es Manson, cabbed it back there with Anthony Morgan and Bryan Dawe one night, delivered pizzas to people off Neighbours and the Channel 7 news and got to front TISM at Elwood RSL. 12.01.2022 After an 18 month Covid-induced hiatus #YesAllWomen Comedy returned to the Highlander Bar with a line up of fresh faces and experienced campaigners. With MC ...Pradeepa Timmermans at the helm, there was a notable diversity of both personnel and material from Becky Steepe, Rachel Unicomb, Carey Joy, Akemi Kawabata, Hannah Sainty, Aarti Vincent, Jess Pearman, Krutika Harale, Zoe Crawford and Lisa Sharpe. A capacity crowd were treated to fantastic night of comedy from newly minted rising stars and Melbourne comedy stalwarts alike. It is clear that many of the featured performers are destined for much bigger things. Not-for-profit Awkward Giraffe has presented #YesAllWomen comedy since 2019, but this all-female comedy project dates back to 2013. Awkward Giraffe chair, Kieran Butler, made mention that it is three years since Awkward Giraffe benefactor, Eurydice Dixon, was performing her 2018 debut show At home I feel like a tourist at Highlander Bar. Many of the photos of Eurydice Dixon performing that were etched into the public consciousness were taken at #YesAllWomen Comedy nights. It was a place where her unique comedic talents were nutured and continued to flourish. Awkward Giraffe will continue to support the platform for development that #YesAllWomen Comedy provides.

10.01.2022 Back in 1996 I wrote this parody to the tune of "Sorrento Moon" about David Boon. We gave it a lash on "Red Faces" and for 5 minutes there it looked like Greg Chappell was interested in releasing it. As per usual, nothing happened. A muso friend knew another fella who had brought back an ADAT from the US. It was a brand new 8 track recording machine that recorded in digital to a Super VHS tape. We used it to record this. I recently dug out the tape and using an old ADAT mach...ine managed to re-assemble the tracks on my computer. This is the remixed and mastered version of "Momento Boon". It is now 25 years old. That is just depressing.
