25.01.2022 Failing to properly winterise your pool can lead to costly problems down the track. Here are our top tips for maintaining your pool over winter: 1. Test your water at least weekly for proper chlorine levels, pH balance, and alkalinity. Adjust the pool pH to 7.2-7.8. This pH level will prevent staining, scaling, and algae growth. 2. Clean your skimmer basket of debris every couple of days. ... 3. Thoroughly vacuum and skim your pool water for floating and sunken debris. An automatic pool cleaner is a good assistant if you don't have time. 4. Add algaecide to prevent algae blooms and growth. 5. Don't let phosphate levels get too high. This is often caused by leaves in the pool. Use a phosphate remover to balance your levels. 6. Clean your filter. Any grease or oil deposits will harden through winter and make the filter harder to clean when spring rolls around. 7. Check your salt cell. As a rule of thumb, salt cells should be cleaned every 3-4 months to help it live its longest life. If you see white calcification building up in your cell, it's definitely time for a clean. 8. Make sure your pool cover is secure. Attach and tighten straps where appropriate and ensure the edge of the cover is tight to the edge of the pavers.
