16.01.2022 Giles was introduced to Mackenzie by his mother who noticed her daughters preoccupation with painting and had set her up with an easel at home. After a couple o...f sessions with Giles, Mackenzie soon moved on to exhibition quality paints and canvases that were almost as tall as she was. Giles is so enthused about her work he now has her exhibiting at his High St gallery in Fremantle. What was unexpected for Giles was how Mackenzie has come to influence his own painting practice. When I saw her painting said Giles it showed me the pure joy and delight that children can have when they are being creative. Watching her work is very inspirational and has given me a new impetus to create paintings from that space of the vision of the child, a series I have called Childs Play." 08.01.2022 FREEDOM SCHOOL 2015 Term 2 Program: 2 May - 27 June 2015 PLEASE MESSAGE IF YOU WISH TO ENROL- LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!!!... This term we will investigate the two major elements of abstract expressionism colour fields and gestural mark making. These two techniques constitute the major languages of abstract expressionism and were brought to prominence by the New York School from the 1940s to the 70s.The course will enable participants to experiment with these styles and learn about some famous abstract expressionist painters Each session will begin with a demonstration by David Giles in the style of a particular artist and end with a supportive show and tell. "Thats okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often dont feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know youve got someone there for you. And Ill always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." 04.01.2022 Bali Art Adventure With David Giles Monday 1st February Friday 5th February 2016 Ubud Bali ... Join multi award winning Australian artist David Giles for a five day art adventure based in Ubud Bali. View from accomodation at Santra Putra Includes 5 days of art adventures including excursions and painting workshops with your art adventure guide multi-award winning artist, David Giles. We will visit various sites each day including Sacred Monkey Forest, Tenenungan Waterfall, Goa Gajah Elephant Cave, Jalan Raja Rice Paddies and Agung Rai Museum. During our excursions we will take watercolour pads and oil pastels to create on site art works and return to our base at Santra Putra for a painting workshop with David Giles using acrylics. An evening dance performance at the Royal Palace is also included. Accommodation is available at Santra Putra for $40 per night for a room with breakfast. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the grounds are beautiful and there are fans but no airconditioning or swimming pool. A swimming pool nearby can be used for $2 a visit. There are many places nearby with air con and pool where you can stay. Accomodation costs are not included and will need to be booked separately whether at Santra Putra or elsewhere. Ubud Heaven is across the road literally and is beautiful with air conditioning and you can even have your own private pool!! Two bed villa with private pool from $167 per night. You will also need to book your own airflights and travel insurance. You will need to bring paints and brushes, plastic plates for palettes and two pads of A3 or A2 and A4 300gsm watercolour paper. Recommended you bring 8-10 colours including white and buy Atelier or Matisse brand. Paints must be in checked luggage and cannot be taken as hand luggage. The cost you pay for the art adventure can be used as credit towards up to 75% off the price of a David Giles painting.
