Tara works for the NSW Ombudsmen and is an advocate of inclusion for people with Down syndrome and would like to see it carry a bigger voice in the community. 17.01.2022 Grim statistics for women with disability A new report has revealed that in the last year women with #disability were more than twice as likely to report sexual violence as women without disability. A quarter of young people with disability reported violence compared to 11 per cent of those in older age groups. And people with cognitive and psychological impairments reported higher rates of all types of violence compared to people with other types of impairments. 09.01.2022 Autism CRC gets $6 million to improve its range of services. On the eve of Autism Awareness Month the Federal Government has announced $6 million in funding for Autism CRC to improve health services, education and employment opportunities for Australians on the autism spectrum. Minister for Families and Social Services, Anne Ruston said the investment would develop supports for mainstream health providers in the assessment and diagnosis of autism, in addition to improving p...athways for people with autism from schooling to employment. The government is funding two major projects that will benefit up to 200,000 Australians, their families and carers, the minister said.

09.01.2022 Could telehealth be the answer for autism screening? Covid-19 and the acceleration of telehealth in the healthcare system has made its way into some local research that has the potential to deliver efficient screening for autism, according to Flinders University Professor of Psychology, Robyn Young. Young is working with US researchers who have been screening young people with autism through telehealth, unable to conduct face-to-face meetings during the pandemic.... Getting the initial screening done via telehealth, especially if the person lives remotely, is making us think outside the square which is probably one good thing to come out of Covid, Young told F2L.
