23.01.2022 How do you maintain your chromium levels? . . Research has found that the mineral chromium assists in blood glucose metabolism with the blood glucose lowering effect particularly beneficial for people who are overweight or who have diabetes. .... . Enjoying chromium rich foods like broccoli, green beans and whole grains (to name a few) is the best and easiest way to maintain your levels. . . . We enjoy our home grown broccoli steamed bright green and al dente with a dob of activia spread and a crack of pepper. . . Im grateful for the worms in the compost heap turning the left over stem peelings and roots into castings from which we can grow the more broccoli seedlings. . . I know the chooks just LOVE the broccoli leaves as they make such happy and excited chooky noises as they gobble them up. . . Wouldnt it be great if we all got as excited for the foods that nurture and heal us?!

22.01.2022 How aware are you really, about your self-care practices? . . . In the week prior to an appointment at FDM, we recommend our clients complete a Pre-consultation self-assessment.... . . . 21.01.2022 ‘Kintsugi’ is the Japanese art form of repairing pottery with gold with the understanding that it is more beautiful for having been broken. . Both the quote and the art form capture some universal truths about life that are just so relevant to the amazing people out there managing chronic health conditions. . For all the pain and suffering you all go through and continually rise above, I hope that it is the realization of how the condition makes you an exceptional human that... makes it a little easier to bear. . What I think is even more important is that you know in your heart that despite your condition, you are valuable and worthy. . It is hard to do the self-care if there is not first SELF-LOVE. #diabetes #healthcoach #prediabetic #health #weightlossjourney #diabetic #healthylifestyle #motivation #wellness

19.01.2022 What does self-love have to do with health? . . . Well love is actually a doing word, it requires 'sweat equity' and self-care is the action that represents the love that you show yourself.... . . . When you mindfully choose to do the things that your body needs to stay healthy, even if they are things that are not necessarily easy or enjoyable, that is self-love. . . . It's important to realize that self-love should be applied in all circumstances, unconditionally, even if you do something that you know is not particularly good for you. . . . This is the most important time to engage with self-love. To maintain an internal dialogue that sounds like your most caring and kind friend. That voice that tells you that you are human, you are trying and tomorrow is a new day. . . . Perhaps think for a moment about how many self-care actions you have done lately and consider, how much does it seem that you love yourself? See more

17.01.2022 Do you know how sunlight helps you to stay healthy? When the sun (UVB) hits your skin it converts cholesterol into Vitamin D which plays many vital roles in maintaining healthy bones, nerves, muscles and immune system. . . .... The right amount of sunlight reduces inflammation and improves your mood! . . . Long term Vitamin D deficiency is associated with: -Osteoporosis -Chronic fatigue -High blood pressure -Obesity -Alzheimers disease -Type 2 diabetes -Cancer . . . Here are some tips for topping up your Vitamin D: >UVB cannot penetrate glass so sunlight must be direct >One tablespoon (14 grams) of cod liver oil contains more than three times the recommended daily amount of vitamin D >Darker-skinned people have more UVB blocking melanin in their skin so they need more time in the sunlight to make the same amount of Vitamin D as lighter-skinned people >Darker skinned people often need to take Vitamin D supplements during the cooler months of the year when there is less opportunity for sunlight . . . Have a look at the Cancer Council map of Australia below to get a sense of how much sunlight you may need. See more

16.01.2022 In pre-COVID times we all made plans to do so soo much. Plans to improve our lives by engaging in more and different challenges to grow and be successful. . . . Now we are forced to withdraw, slow down and take stock.... . . . Perhaps consider that happiness is learning to Want what you have, not have what you want and that you control the definition of your success. . . . Only try to manage what is in your control, remember that health is wealth and focus on the small steps that you can take in the present moment to achieve peace of mind . . . This may involve a daily gratitude practice, adding an extra serve of vegetables, calling a friend for a chat or going for a walk . . . How will you change yourself in this time to emerge triumphant on the other side? See more

To start off with, I have posted images of natural greenery so you can engage in a bit of forest bathing ISO style. The true form (actually getting out into nature) is called Shinrin-yoku in Japanese. Research(1) has shown that people who practice forest bathing have decreased levels of stress hormones and inflammatory markers while also experiencing improvements in their mood. . . It may still be chilly but we have passed the Winter solstice in Melbourne and the daylight hours ARE getting longer! If the forest is inaccessible maybe consider gardening, walking in the park or taking the time to observe the changing colours of a sunset or sunrise? . If you do, perhaps take note of how you feel in your body and your mind, before and after... . (1) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22840583/ See more

08.01.2022 When you eat citrus, do you cut all the white pith off? . . . Did you know that the pith is high in pectin? Pectin is a soluble fiber which turns to gel in the stomach where it traps and slowly releases the sugar from the fruit. ... . . . Even though fruit is relatively high in sugar both the insoluble and soluble fibers found in the skin, pith and pulp stops the blood sugar from spiking. . . . Its the fiber content that makes fruit a healthy snack or dessert option! . . .
