25.01.2022 FISHING REPORT Good morning wonderful people As some of you would have noticed, we are now doing our fishing report for the new "Maryborough Sun" newspaper. Its a free local paper a great read and printed every fortnight. Here is this fortnights report ... Well this past week’s weather has put even the most seasoned fisher to the test but we had some anglers scoring an A+ for their efforts where there’s a will there’s a way let’s check out what’s been caught and some tips on how to fish to the conditions. We are pretty lucky to have such diverse area available to us even when Mother Nature doesn’t want to play ball. Warmer weather and possible afternoon storm or two is on the way it’s not such a bad thing with very positive things often following a good downpour, we’re already seeing a few a prawns starting to flick about so bait numbers will be on the increase which is just an extra bonus. Lately fisho’s have still been catching winter and summer whiting in good numbers and sizes, but most popular would be the flathead catches over the past two three weeks with some being caught and released well over the maximum 75cm legal limit it’s great to see. Choosing to target this species on lures is extremely productive, using either hard or soft lures even up to 5/6inch’s long with a wobble, or rattle is recommended to stir the water and attract the predator. The Mary River is still the spot to be to chase the Black and Silver Bream small grubs have been working a treat or for the bait users you can’t go past the old garlic soaked chicken fillet or oily mullet strip. Best to try around Reindeer Rocks, lower Rocky Point and up towards the heads around Tandora. Poking around the shallows between the Crab Islands, Horse Shoe Banks and The Powers Islands is the ideal environment for a Threadfin to be lurking in the drains for bait fish so matching the hatch fishing with a Prawn, Herring or Mullet is a must. There have been good reports of Barra and Threadfin from the Lamington pontoon. The River would have to be one of the most protective spots to fish in, its fishable in even the worst of winds. Squid are still around in big numbers right throughout the Sandy Straits so make sure you have a Squid jig on board. There have also been reports of the Sand Crabs having a run. Lets check out the brag board. First up is Tonesy with a tasty Cod. Merilyn with a beautiful Flathead. Next is Tanner, the little cutie who is pretty excited about his bream . Last but def not least, our very own Melissa got into the Flathead up at Baffle

20.01.2022 Hi guys Here is the latest fishing report Hello spring time! The Fraser coast has made it through another season change We don’t know if fish have calendars but they have definitely reacted to the slight change in the weather. Let’s have a look at this week’s local report. We are only a week into spring and yet the variety of fish species have changed. Along with the warmer days come the mighty Mangrove Jack. You are best off targeting this hard fighting fish around ...dense snags and structure with small livies or flesh strips for bait or alternatively 70 100mm suspending or shallow diving rusty/goldy type lures. However, in saying all that they are also a lot of fun to catch on the surface, larger walk the dog or popping action lures have been known to annoy a Jack to the point of no return. Following the full moon a couple of nights ago the water turn and big tides have increased the bait numbers so it’s no wonder anglers are getting a good feed the Mary River has been producing great catches of Grunter up 2.5kg, most are taking prawns, black and silver bream are still around taking chicken or mullet gut plus the Threadfin Salmon are starting to thicken up, best catches have been from soaking a herring or prawn. These can be tricky fish to catch, make sure you let them have a run before setting that hook. The Barra reports are also coming in. Our Mary holds a lot more of these than most people think. The Burrum is fishing well - large bream, grunter and mangrove jack all being landed. We have had reports of a few mystery fish that couldn’t be stopped. We all love a challenge. The Great Sandy Straits will always be the most popular location to collect a wide variety of fish. Whiting and Flathead up on the sand flats, bream around the mangroves, pelagic’s chasing the bait around in the open water and reef fish stalking their prey off the coffee rock ledges and reefs. The squid are still around in numbers and the pots are starting to get a few sand and mud crabs. Heading out into the bay boaties have still being getting a quality mix bag of reefies such as Grassy Sweetlip, Trout, Squire and Snapper plus some very nice Cod. The first of September was the opening of our Bass season and with the slightly warmer weather they should be on the bite. Lets check out this weeks brag board. First up is Paul and Mareea who were pretty happy to tick Snapper off their bucket list Michael with a huge Cod caught in the Sandy Straits, it went 14kg Aysha had a great day out with the fam , landing this nice Mangrove Jack. Andrew with an awesome 11kg Barra caught in our mighty Mary River. Garry with a stonker of a summer whiting, it went 40cm. Ky is up next with his Grunter. Great fish. We love to see this- 3 generations all into the fish, we have Mick and his grandson Ryan with their snapper and son Jason not to be outdone with his Snapper. Last but not least is Michael with a couple of Black Bream .

11.01.2022 FISHING REPORT Well yet again the weather has not the best for us fisho’s, fingers crossed for some clear days ahead, just remember the fish are still out there feeding, and it’s only going to improve. That’s have a look at this week’s fishing report. Ok obviously with all the freshwater runoff, our fresh water species have been a popular target, Flicking soft plastic shad tail for bass has been the go around Lenthals Dam, Tinanna and Teddington. Barra are also being ta...king at Lenthals on Gold Bombers and similar hard body lures. The Burrum is another hot spot, Barra, Jack and Grunter all on the chew. And plenty of Black and Silver bream, they love this stirred up water, lots of water turn and food available, and you’ll find the fish will be more aggressive and have more confidence feeding on overcast days. Patches of prawns have been reported around Burrum, Tuan and River Heads, and will only continue to grow and multiple over the coming weeks so it’s time to prepare your cast nets. The Great Sandy Straits is a mixed bag at the moment. We have had reports of grunter and cod over near the island. The flats are fishing well for whiting and there are lots of flathead about. The Jack are still on the bite up the creeks, they don’t mind the influx of fresh. Don’t forget your castnet as the prawns are moving in. The inshore reefs have produced some good quality fish this week. Black Spot Venus Tusk fish are top of the hit list with anglers having a ball on these hard running fish. 110lb Scheinder fishing line on a heavy duty hand reel with a nice fresh crab for bait has been the weapons of choice . The Mary is running pretty fresh but we have had reports of Barra around Grahams Creek. Lets check out this weeks brag board. First up is Tanyon who took advantage of a break in the weather, landing these beautiful Black Spot Venus Tusk fish. Damo is very happy with his Mangrove Jack he caught up the creek. Jax Rossiter had a great day fishing with his dad, a fishing star in the making for sure. Nice flathead mate.

11.01.2022 Fishing Report The change in weather has been most welcomed even though it has been making it hard for us fisho’s over the last couple of weeks dowsing us with rain and storms, however it’s not all doom and gloom. The water may be brackish but the fish are all fired up and smashing those baits with aggression. Let’s take a look at the report. Anglers have taken advantage of Mother Nature flushing the mud crabs out of the creeks, and have sets their pots out on the mud throug...hout the Sandy Straits. Numerous reports of quality Bucks have been flooding in. And another welcomed result of the rain, 3-4 inch prawns in numbers have already been reported in Tuan and Maaroom creeks. Scattered boomies out from Tininabah ledge have been producing a mixed bag of reef fish including black spot tusk fish, grassy sweetlip and estuary cod. Trolling medium diving lures past the rock ledges and snags at fig tree has landed some quality Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon and Grunter and soaking a few baits on the ledge has produced legal Scarlets, Estuary Cod and Grassy Sweetlip. The inshore reefs such as Sammies, Mickeys and the Artificial have reported Black Spot Venus Tusk Fish, Grassy Sweetlip, Moses Perch and Esturary Cod, however there has also been a lot of reef toads, Remora’s and Sharks. The fresh water fishing has been very popular over the past week with land based fisho’s taking advantage of the perfect conditions as the water is flowing. Plenty of Bass on the chew favouring surface lures however still taking a grub soft plastic or a hard vibe. Dennis Malloy ( Stormy ) landed a very nice 4.24 kilo cod from a local Estuary System. An example of the quality mud crabs been potted in the Sandy Straits.
