21.01.2022 Today is my parents 45th wedding anniversary! They were married in 1976 in their close friends, The Sheridans backyard in Morley, for a surprise wedding during one of their visits to Perth. Living in Corrigin at the time in their first caravan, Dad was working for Telecom converting the open wire to underground cable and were soon due to head North again. ... At the time there were only three civil celebrants in Western Australia - two men + one lady. They chose Carol to be there that afternoon for ‘the bbq’ as she blended in with friends unbeknown to everyone of what was about to happen. Living away in their caravan & travelling at the time for Dad’s work, meant it wasn’t uncommon for great catch ups when they hit the city. So an invitation was sent out & a gathering was planned. My grandparents & brother were all in on the surprise & had flown over from the east coast to be a part of it. Dad wore a cream safari suit with flared bottoms & Mum wore a beautiful simple long tiered cream cheesecloth sun frock. They both looked amazing & I so wish I could transport myself back to these days to photograph weddings like this! My Aunty + Uncle, Dad’s younger sister & brother in law, June + Bobby owned a hotel in Heywood Victoria & had the biggest bottle of champagne that was especially freighted over for them. At the time a deposit was required on the bottle to be returned & that cost more than the freight over! (You can see the big bottle in the photo) Not being champagne drinkers but grateful for the gift, Mum & Dad mixed it with Mackinson Stout to create a drink called ‘Black Velvet’ that kicked the celebrations off. The second family photo means everything to me. The six people in this image are my heart & when I was born the following year, they were my world. The simplicity of this photo reminds me of the importance of the photos we capture at weddings. The family formals, the documentary snaps & those amazing hero images all combine together to create that time capsule to hold onto. You never know when a simple capture could become the one image that holds someones heart. I know for me how deeply I cherish this simple family photo that now sits in my office. At the end of the night, the celebrant handed mum + dad a card, that they thought was filled with wedding wishes, however it was an invitation for them to join her & her husband for their divorce party!!! So many fun & very special memories shared from that day & I love that mum & dad did things their way. Happy Anniversary you two. All of our love, today & always x

10.01.2022 Today is @tac.sea parents wedding anniversary, my beautiful mother & father-in-law. Jan & Noel met on Asteria beach in Athens, when at the time they were both working for British Airways. It was on their four day stop over in the Mediterranean that their love story began. And then it was on this day that they were married in the suburbs of London at St Jospeh’s in Wealdstone, 53 years ago on February 3rd 1968 on a freezing cold English day with snow falling. ... Jan wore a crepe georgette gown styled on empire lines with sleeves, hems and train trimmed in layers of French lace. Their reception with about 80 friends & family was in held in an old English manor house pub, the Railway Hotel in Edgeware, with tudor beams & big open fires to keep everyone warm & cosy. Sadly Noels family back in Grafton on the north coast of New South Wales were unable to attend but sent many telegrams of well wishes & love across the seas. Honeymooning followed with a skiing trip to Austria before they returned to England & boarded a ship bound for Australia. This would be Jan’s first trip down under, to live & meet Noel’s family. An epic journey that included an amazing stop in South Africa for them to have time in Cape Town & Durban. Both places that @tac.sea loved in his own travels. The third family photo shared is a treasured memory for Jan, with sadly only her niece (the flower girl Kathryn) her bridesmaid & two cousins that are still with us today. And the fourth photo is a newspaper article complete with comments from the family written on the side (zoom in to read!!!!) that was published in the Grafton Daily Examiner following their wedding day. The article was saved by Noel’s parents of their son’s special day, the day when he married his beautiful English wife. Happy Anniversary to you both, sending you both so much love today as you celebrate all these years together x
