24.01.2022 Final programme: Freedom Rise Galloways field day Venue: Freedom Rise Miniature Belted Galloway Stud, 12340 D’Aguilar Hwy, YARRAMAN S.E. QLD ... Date: Sunday 13th September 2020 Cost: $10 per head for members of a Galloway Association (Australian Galloway Association, Australian Belted Galloway Association or Galloways Australia), and $15 for others, and children $5. Morning and afternoon teas and lunch will be provided. 8:30-9:30am: Tour of property, mix and mingle, on-the-go Q&A, and morning Tea. 9:30am: Ear tattooing and applying NLIS and other tags. There are several animals to be tattooed, and the lighter coloured ears of red animals will make it easier for you to see the results of the tattooing. 10:30am: Our guest speaker, Tanya Hoare who has nearly 30 years’ experience in showing cattle will be giving her first talk (using our animals as examples) which will cover Basic Structure for Breeding Soundness. This will be focused on the conformation of Hips, Pins, Width of Thurls, Tail Set and Birthing. Having all of these correct will reduce vets bills and increase profit 11am: Collection of tail hair samples. We’ll demonstrate the correct method to use to collect tail hair samples and their correct handling for submission to the Office for processing. 11:30am: Tick fever and 7-in-1 injections. You’ll be shown how to give neck injections using a shorter needle to allow for under-skin (sub-cutaneous) application. 12pm-1pm: Lunch and Lucky door raffle. Galloway Family association members will also go into an extra draw for a complete cattle breaking setup (to be demonstrated after lunch). How to make your own cattle leads. Everyone will have a chance to make a 3-loop cattle lead after they’ve finished their lunch 1:30pm: Tanya will give her second talk on Basic Angulation and Movement. Understanding how an animal moves allows us to understand why their bones need particular angles to reduce stress and increase production. 2pm: Cattle breaking. We believe this is one of the most important ways to increase the value of your animals if you are aiming to sell to the hobby market/small acreage owners, or just want a much less stressful time when dealing with your animals in your yards. There will be six animals to work with, all in different stages of breaking. You will be shown how to do the initial and crucial first tie-up and lead. Everyone who wants to will be able to participate. For catering purposes, please R.S.V.P as soon as possible, but no later than 11th September 2020 If you need for more information, please email us at [email protected] , or call us on 07 4163 8652 after dark. Look forward to seeing you there. Baden & Raymond Freedom Rise Miniature Belted Galloway Stud
20.01.2022 After a few weeks of gentle rain the grass has started to grow. It's growing so fast that the cattle can't keep up with it.
19.01.2022 Our Dun heifer from Dallington View London has become best mates with our newest heifer from Wilkamdai Helena. Both were sired by Budawang Gallagher.
18.01.2022 Its starting to get a bit hectic at the Nursery.
18.01.2022 We'd like to give a big thank you to our friends Shar & Goffredo, who drove up from Nimbin to help out at the Toowoomba Royal Show. Goff got stuck into it, and wasn't afraid to use the shovel. They made our weekend easier and helped us to laugh.
16.01.2022 Some Show attendees learning about our belties
15.01.2022 I've just come in from the paddock where I found that Freedom Rise Phoenix (FRE P24) has given birth to her first calf by Dragonbridge Hector (DBS M1). I've been checking every hour since morning. The birth was so quick that I didn't even see any signs that the process had even started. Its a heifer as well. So we have now had 16 calves this year. 8 girls and 8 boys. Only 2 of the girls are red, but 5 of the boys are red. ... 11 more to go!
14.01.2022 Some of our pregnant girls (and one curious steer). All of the girls are due in the next few months to Kermit the bull.
13.01.2022 Finally! After giving us three black bull calves, London (our only dun cow) has finally given us a dun heifer calf. The sire is Budawang Gallagher.
10.01.2022 We'd let two of our young bulls, Picasso (red, 21 months) and Quinton (black 11 months), and Oreo a steer (on the left) into the Orchard to clean up around the trees. Unfortunately they were more interested in getting into our lucerne storage and making a mess. They'd figured out how push aside the quad bikes to get in. It took a major effort to get them out and they just stood there waiting for the next opportunity to sneak back in.
10.01.2022 We've chosen our Team for the Toowoomba Show. Over the next 8 weeks they'll be getting some extra care and attention to get them into show condition. They've been on Rumifeed and dry hay for the last 12 months, so the recent green grass is going to make things easier for us.
10.01.2022 The first calves of the year have arrived! A black heifer from Hope and a red bull calf from Lightening.
09.01.2022 CANCELLATION OF FIELD DAY Hi All. We have just found out that we cannot have more than 10 people at our place at any one time. We thought that we could still hold the event out-doors as our local Markets went ahead last Saturday. ... We have since found out that some businesses and organisations can apply for and receive a "COVID safe" plan which allows an event to go ahead. We do not qualify for any of these plans. We have just spoken to Qld Health and we are definitely not allowed to have more than 10 people on our property at one time. Due to the nature of our schedule it would be impractical to stagger the visits. As such we will be cancelling the field day for this year. As it usually starts to get very hot from this time onward every year, we will not be rescheduling the event to later in the year. Regards Raymond and Baden
08.01.2022 We brought Glenda and her bull-calf into the yards for his first check-up. Turns out that he's a cheeky little fella and wasn't afraid to come up to us.
08.01.2022 We've got a few visitors staying over at our Farm; the first since COVID 19 lock-down. Its great to be able to post some of their pictures here.
06.01.2022 We have had a very rewarding day at the Toowoomba Royal Show. All of our cattle did us proud. The highlight was winning the Australian Belted Galloway Association's Award for Supreme Belted Galloway against a Wonderful Animal exhibited by John Nunan.
05.01.2022 A cut-off switch like this would come in handy for a couple of our cheekiest cows. :)
05.01.2022 The calves had their first visit to the drinking trough and got to mix-and-mingle with some of the other mums-to-be.
04.01.2022 Another perfect red calf today. Glenda has given us a nice bull calf. The sire is Budawang Gallagher. Looks like he is going to be a darker red like his father.
04.01.2022 Freedom Rise Petra has had her first calf, a perfect little heifer. The sire is Freedom Rise Pablo.

04.01.2022 Here at Freedom Rise we have the luxury of having enough space and wonderful fertile red soil to be able to run several lines of cattle. We are running two main lines; one for the Show Ring, and one for the Companion market. These objectives require different outcomes. The judges in the Show ring require a larger framed animal that will provide an outstanding meat carcass. Our customers who are after companion animals generally require smaller animals that they can feel comfortable around, and fit onto often smaller sized properties. We are now onto our 3rd generation of breeding and are finally seeing the results of our efforts. We strongly believe that both types of cattle hold a strong future within the Belted Galloway breed.
03.01.2022 Some important scientific data to share
01.01.2022 Cleaned and ready to go.
01.01.2022 Picasso won champion bull and received the Australian Belted Galloway Association's Award. Thanks to the ABGA for sponsoring this award. Afterwards Picasso ignored all of the attention and had a nap.
