18.01.2022 Check out the Centre's glass lungs which we use for our free radical and cigarette demonstration! Both lungs contain a compound called a nitroxide-fluorophore. The nitroxide-fluorophore glows blue when it encounters free radicals. The lung on the right in this picture is glowing as cigarette smoke is passed through it indicating there are free radicals in cigarette smoke.

04.01.2022 In this video both flasks contain a special compound which glows (fluoresces) only when it encounters free radicals. The flask on the left is the control solution containing the compound and air. The flask on the right also contains the compound but has cigarette smoke bubbled through it. This flask has increased fluorescence as more cigarette smoke is past through it, indicating that there are high levels of free radicals in cigarette smoke.
