25.01.2022 Here are the horses running up the hill for the first time to explore their new space!

23.01.2022 Buried Juvanna today. The herd feels so incomplete without her. She is flying free with the angels now, though. Here are two pics of her in the water with Finn and Bhakti.

23.01.2022 The horse is sacred. They help to heal us, to centre us. Their legs represent the four directions, their head looking toward Creator, and the tail acknowledging... our Mother Earth. The horse nation is our friend. - Lakota Horses are not here for our selfishness

21.01.2022 I took this photo the other day while working with a client, along with a few other photos taken seconds apart. In the other photos, the client looks normal. In this one, you can see her face is distorted and her legs and the chair legs are missing - while everything else in the photo is in focus and in proportion. Seems like a glitch in a timeline .... can't remember what we working on.... however the horses gathered around us and closed in on her...

20.01.2022 Here is the continuation from the previous video - bringing the horses down from the ridge. Once they crossed the bridge they started to get excited and a few went ahead of us!

20.01.2022 Last week we opened up the back paddocks for the horses for the first time. The next morning they were standing on the ridge looking down towards the sheds. I had to go up there and show them how to get down, where the creek crossing was, how to get through the gate.... The way to guide the herd is to lead the alpha mare. The herd tend to fall into their hierarchy (pecking order), and don't race ahead of the lead mare. After this day, they found their way back every day and are waiting for me in the morning!

17.01.2022 Yesterday a client brought her dog, Mia to her session with the horses, because Mia seemed to want to come with her. This is an elderly dog - rescued from a breeder, who has trust and physical issues. In particular, she has degeneration in her hip and has difficulty with stairs. During our session the horses - mainly Finn, 'worked' on her hip for the entire hour! So amazing and humbling to watch animals helping one another. After the session, Mia wandered about the yard (and beyond) exploring - even chasing a rabbit!

15.01.2022 Today we had a visitor in our feed room - a falcon. It stayed up near the ceiling and couldn't find its way out. We called Jason - wildlife rescue who arrived within minutes and was able to gently and skillfully move the bird out of the room. It flew into the space where the horses were eating and landed on Jezzabelle's back. After a few seconds, it flew away.

15.01.2022 Went out to the horses this morning - the first morning after they were introduced to the back paddocks. Saw them standing on the hill - looking down at the sheds! Not sure if it was a showdown, or they didn't know the way down the hill. I had to walk them down the hill and back to the sheds for their breakfast!

14.01.2022 Just looking through the pictures I took of our recent trip to Mallacoota to provide equine therapy for bush fire affected communities and felt a longing to connect with them. Free Rein Australia has teamed up with Emily McVeigh of Equine Learning Experiences Australia to provide ongoing equine therapy services to these communities. I have deep deep respect for the people of Mallacoota - for their vulnerability, courage and resilience. I am humbled and honoured by their warmth and willingness to work with us, and my heart is full.

11.01.2022 PROBLEM SOLVING AND CREATIVE SOLUTIONS WILL NEVER HAPPEN WHILE OUR BODIES ARE IN AN HEIGHTENED STATE OF STRESS AND DISCOMFORT. Yesterday my client was obviously unsettled as she sat down her breathing was shallow, she looked uncomfortable, and her legs were jittery. She was clearly in distress as she shared what was happening in her life. I interrupted her, as continuing to talk about what is difficult does not help her body - which was showing definite signs of overwhelm.... I re-directed her racing mind by asking her what she noticed in her body. In particular, she mentioned a great deal of swirling in her chest and intense discomfort. Since energy needs to move, and the body always seeks equilibrium (which usually involves the safe release of discordant energy), I guided her to track how the energy might move and facilitated the safe expression/release of that energy. After a few moments and in response to her body’s impulse, she straightened, opened her chest and stretched her arms back. She felt growing relief as the swirling energy was released. As she did this, one of the horses approached and stood over her maybe to help her release the discordant energy, or maybe to comfort/co-regulate her nervous system, or both. After a few minutes, she said she felt better and relaxed into her chair. We were then able to revisit the challenges she was experiencing in her life. Her body remained relaxed and calm, and she was able to talk about what was happening and what she might do.

10.01.2022 Sometimes we feel defeated, exhausted, or unsafe, and just want to curl over. And most of the time we resist that impulse and just 'soldier' on. When we do this we are fighting with our bodies and that takes more energy and takes longer for the feelings to pass. What we can do instead is honour the feelings (i.e. no judgment or resistance), let our bodies guide us to curl over, and most important, focus on how that might feel better, beneficial, safer .... Keep that focus until we get the impulse to rise/straighten. Allow our bodies to move slowly to the new upright posture and focus on how that feels - usually more open, lighter, safer ... Today Leila stood near the client as the client moved through this sequence - as if supporting and protecting her. Such big generous hearts horses have!

10.01.2022 The benefits of co-regulation when in proximity of a highly coherence system (e.g. the horse's healthy nervous system). Since their hearts are 5 times as big as ours, their energy field is more powerful. The other horses nearby would be in sync also, creating an energy field that entrains everyone's nervous system.

09.01.2022 Today while I was hanging around with the horses - waiting for a client to arrive, Elle walked up to me and pushed me. I took a few steps away and she pushed me again - two more times. (Three times or more means pay attention!). So I reflected on what the pushing might mean - what is happening in my life? I am taking some big steps, making some big decisions, and it feels a little scary. So the pushes felt like she was saying, 'get on with it, just do it, keep going....' As soon as I thought that, she licked her lips and walked away. Job done! (Horses lick their lips in response to a release of pressure. When I had the thought about 'just get on with it,' my body agreed by relaxing - hence the release of pressure. Hope she is right because I am following her advice! LOL!

04.01.2022 Enjoying their new paddock today!

03.01.2022 SELF-REGULATION DOES NOT EXIST. We are resonant beings and need the resonance of others' nervous systems, and the rhythms of Earth and nature. Horses know this. When a member of the herd is dysregulated, that individual is a liability to the herd - s/he may attract predators, and may not be functioning well enough to alert the herd of danger. Horses intentionally co-regulate each other - for the safety of the whole. They change the rhythm of their breathing - which infl...uences their heart rate - which influences the heart rate of the dysregulated individual. (Physics: when the stronger, more coherent oscillating field comes into proximity of a weaker, more chaotic oscillating field, the weaker one entrains to the stronger one). A great mystery to me is the willingness for horses to co-regulate people, rather than walking away - if given choice. There is way more to these horse-beings than we may realise.
