19.01.2022 Grieving the passing of one of the most gentle and graceful of souls this week as the scourge of cancer claims one of the jewels of the Perth bellydance community. Adrienne was a multi-talented dancer and a member of many troupes and tribes in Perth from the Mystique Dance Company to Azwahn Tribal. She will be missed from our classrooms, workshops and stages and will always be with us, to remind us to correct our posture. Rest easy blessed one, knowing we will speak of you fondly and remember you with smiles and stories.

Thank you to the dancers who filled the stage and dance floor with skill, colour, energy and joy, the stallholders who filled the hall with sumptuous, shiny and fragrant treasures, the sound crew who overcame great obstacles and filled the air with glorious music, the Rosa's Recipe food truck who filled our bellies with delicious and flavorsome morsels, our photographer Uncle Di...ck who captured the images which will fill Facebook with wonderful memories, our audience who filled the tables and swelled with appreciation, clapping and trilling, our Door Divas who filled everyone everyone with the delight of a warm welcome, the Dalmatinac Club for filling our glasses with all the good things from the bar and to our wonderful Committee for all the hard work behind the scenes that created the space to be filled by all the gloriousness of yesterday. 13.01.2022 Musicality for Global Caravan Tribal Bellydancing Classes with Cat. These classes are aimed at women who already dance GCTB and would like to extend their knowledge in the musicality aspects of dance. Together we will explore (and define!) beat, counts, tempo, rhythms, and how this all relates to drumming, ziling, and dancing our beautiful GC repertoire. It will support women to find and feel the beat of the music, dance in time with the music and its phrasing, build confidence to lead, dance with zils, drum together and for each other, and very likely a whole lot more! As places are limited, please PM Cat if you would like to attend.

10.01.2022 Life is a balance of holding on and letting go Rumi ...a message from Nikki. I have lived and breathed WAMED Festival for the last 5 years and loved every sin...gle moment of it, but it is now time for me to hang up my well worn WAMED hipscarfe and enjoy being a participant once again. To the wonderful team members I’ve had the privilege of working with at various times over these past few years, Kerry, Fiona, Aiveen & Tabetha, the creative graphic genius of both Alma Sarhan and Aradia, amazing photographers, Alma Sarhan (again! Because this woman is so darn talented!), Wayne Eddy, Richard Stein, Dale Neill, Michelle Keyt and brilliant videographer, Simon Stokes, some of the worlds finest teachers including Nerissa, Melusina, Rose Ottaviano, Karim Nagi, Nesma al Andalus, Vanessa of Cairo, Cinzia Putrificato and Kae Montgomery, as well as all our world class local teachers and performers from around Australia, our humbling workshop assistants and our always wonderful participants and audience members who have brought so much cheer to the festival year after year, thank you all for being part of my unforgettable journey and thank you for supporting the Arts, we have an incredibly special community. As some of you already know, I have struggled with injury for a couple of years following a car accident and then at the beginning of the year we discovered I had two very painful and debilitating benign tumours on the bottom of my right foot. In short, I am broken! Once covid reared it’s ugly head, it was clear as day that I was being pulled in a new direction. I needed to very quickly get a new job to support my family as no amount of government assistance was going to guarantee the survival of my business after 6 months, it really was not a risk I could take. The culmination of working full time plus continuing to run classes and organise WAMED on top of being a single mumma to my two gorgeous boys resulted in some major fatigue and burn out. Because of this, I have needed to re-evaluate my priorities and what I was going to do moving forward because as much as I would love to, I simply cannot do everything. I write this not to evoke sympathy, as while I have certainly grieved over the major changes in my life, I am truely loving my new path and I am tackling it in my usual passionate way! I look forward to seeing you all in workshops in 2021, and can’t wait for you to all be introduced to WAMED Festival’s newest team member, who brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise and who along with Kerry and Fiona will no doubt continue to bring the community many, many new wonderful WAMED memories. We are looking for volunteers to sit on the stall, which means dancing, and zilling or drumming, and talking to people about free spirit and dance and wellness in Perth.
