25.01.2022 I am so grateful for the amazing people I have the privilege of teaching at Sewing and Pattern Making Classes. Thank you for the lovely review

25.01.2022 RARE OPPORTUNITY!! I have a couple of spots available in my sewing and pattern making classes tomorrow! Message me if youd like to come along and explore your creative side. This is Ashleigh Charles making a silky slip dress. ... Shes putting tear away on the neckline and armholes to hold them in the correct shape while shes sewing them. This prevents them from stretching. Have you used tearaway in your sewing before? Have a great weekend

21.01.2022 Vintage Refresh Classes Do you have that favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe that you just can't bring yourself to throw out....... You know it's been sitting there for a year or two and has survived the last two wardrobe edits you've done :)... Maybe its a little too small or big, the sleeves are too long, too loose, too puffy or not quite the right design or maybe it needs a little mending, zip replacement, the hem may be too long or too short...... I can teach you how to mend, alter or redesign your special garments and you'll once more be dying to wearing them again. Revamp, replenish, redesign and renew your favourite clothing. Help to save the environment by joining the fashion revolution and consuming less, while keeping your favourite clothing alive for longer. This is great for those who love to find beautiful treasured outfits at the op shop as well, simple changes in style and fit are easy when you know how! In these classes you'll learn how to alter clothing the easy, common sense way. I'm doing 3 of these classes Wednesday 2nd Sept at 9 am-12 pm, Friday 4th September 9 am-12 pm and Saturday 5th September 9.30 am-12.30 pm. Message me to book into a class, I have very small classes of 3 people and stagger the start by 15 minutes to start you off on your project before the next person comes, which means less waiting around. Classes are $50 for 3 hours, and you'll leave with skills you can use over and over again. I have been sewing for 34 years, pattern making for 14 years and have been working in the fashion industry for 9 years. Here's what people are saying "I just had an amazing afternoon with Colleen & without me realising it she taught me how to change a bought pattern. Now I am ready to cut it out & sew!! She is down to earth & so very clever. I recommend her to anyone who wants to expand their skills or pick up some hints & tips. So very inspiring. Thanks Colleen! X" Heather "Colleen is incredibly talented and a great Teacher. She has her own Designer label and has a wonderful fashion collection. All made by her and ethically produced." Vivienne "Loved the one on one help and support learning how to resize a vintage pattern" Sarah-Jane Message me to book into one of the above sessions. Bookings are essential

21.01.2022 Our $40 classes are going well. Weve been working on many and varied projects! An absolute beginner learned how to sew and made a cushion cover in one session. We learned how to grade patterns into different sizes. We started creating a quilt, made baby clothes, and yesterday we made two skirt patterns in one class! ... I still have a few spots available for tomorrow and Saturday...this is great value, so if you want to come, book now. Other times available next week, message me for details. Offer ends 8th August

21.01.2022 Patricia is now making a little coat for her darling grandchild. It’s going to be sooo cute It’s a rusty colour with a contrast printed cotton lining, and a cute pointy hood!! ... Patricia used a kwiksew pattern and altered it to fit her needs, using her granddaughter’s measurements, cut out and started sewing the jacket! Great progress Patricia! I can’t wait to see it

20.01.2022 Meet Jill, Jill has been making herself a pair of corduroy pants, fitted at the waist with a tapered leg. She put a zip in the side of these pants which looks great. As you can see she’s pretty happy with the finished product. Jill used a commercial pattern to start with, and then we used her measurements to alter the pattern to fit. ... Even though we did this, the fit and design of pants can vary greatly as well as the sizing from different patterns. So we tried the pants on before we did any finishing, ended up we had to take them in a bit. This is so much better than finding out they’re too small. Who else tries things on when they’re being made? It’s a great idea, this way you can perfect the fit before the garment is finished. Great work Jill, they look amazing

20.01.2022 I have a few spots available in My Wednesday and Friday Freestyle Classes and just one spot left on Saturday afternoon. This is your choice of project, Bring anything along they youd like to make or I can help you decide if you need. Classes are currently $50 per session which is a reduction on my normal price of $60. ... Heres a few pics from last week when I was teaching Connie to grade patterns into different sizes. Shes a bit camera shy!!

18.01.2022 Tyson has been working to create his own jeans. First he made the pattern, then cut them out in calico (to check the fit). Then he sewed them up, first time ever with proper fly zip and pockets! ... Stay tuned to see the finished product! Nice work Tyson

17.01.2022 Yes!! We are back in creative land!! This morning we created two skirt patterns in one session.... The first was a draped wrap shirt and the second was a half circle skirt. Just the cutting and sewing to do now

15.01.2022 Just popping in to let you know classes are happening as usual. Ever since the studio opened in Regent Arcade we’ve been using hand sanitizer and I’ve been cleaning down all the surfaces and equipment after each class with disinfectant. Now I am providing face masks for use during classes to keep you all safe in these times. ... Classes as usual this week. Stay safe and happy guys.

15.01.2022 Last week Emily altered her vintage dress, and she did an amazing job Heres the steps we went through to do it. 1. First Emily tried on the dress and worked out how much she wanted to take off the top layer. We pinned it to work out how it would look.... 2. Emily marked 1 cm under the pins and cut on this line because she did a fine double rolled hem application .5 x .5cm 3. Emily then cut off the excess fabric on the marked line. 4. The fun part!! Emily then used the stepped foot and the industrial machine to hem the top layer which was done in two steps. Rolled .5 cm and stitched and then rolled again another.5 cm and stitched. 5. The best part.... admiring a great result!

14.01.2022 I created a video of an Ease stitch, it’s been cut a bit short as the tripod fell over halfway through the process This is handy when you have to fit the sleeve head I tutor bodice of a garment when there’s a reasonable amount of ease in the sleeve. It can also be used if you need to stitch something together where one side is a little longer than the other. It allows you to join the seams without creating tucks in the seam line. Here’s the video..... look out for the photo soon in the next post!

14.01.2022 Teresa nearly always brings a new project to class each time she comes. Wednesday she brought a jacket and made a toile (mock up) to see how it looked and how it fit. This is a good step to follow in the preparation of making the actual garment if you’re unsure of the sizing and you love the fabric you’re going to use..... which is usually the case In making a toile you can try it on to see how it looks and any alterations which are needed can be made to the pattern before cutting the preciousfabric. Great work Teresa

13.01.2022 Patricia is now making a onesie romper with shoulders in it as part of a capsule wardrobe she’s creating for her granddaughter. She learned how to do button holes in this session and we also made the pattern from a couple of different patterns combined. Next step is to bind the armholes and neckline. ... Looking forward to next session Patricia!

12.01.2022 It's been a busy few weeks getting the studio right for sewing and Pattern making classes, and the Addison Ash Showroom ready. I keep forgetting to take photos showing what everyone is making. I found a few though! Lots of these taken by the beautiful Penny Hall, thanks lovely Connie has been learning how to grade patterns into different sizes, Regan has been learning to sew, Shay has been reviving and redesigning vintage treasures, and Elspeth has been making the pattern for a hoodie. Just to name a few things we've been up to. There's also a few shots of the new studio.

12.01.2022 Just a little update about how we can keep everyone safe during these uncertain times. We're so lucky to have a relatively stable situation here in South Australia in relation to Covid-19, but we still should continue to use safe practice. I have hand sanitiser readily available in the studio, and would ask you all kindly to use it upon entry. All the equipment we use is sanitised between classes, even the pins you use, although if you can bring and use your own pins that w...ould be appreciated (they're not the easiest items to sanitise. Feel free to bring your own sewing kit and machine if you would prefer to use these items as well. I have all of these things if you prefer not to bring them, as I'm aware it's not always easy to bring these types of things into the city. Also, I kindly ask that if you are feeling unwell, please contact me and we can arrange another time for your class. Kind thanks, Colleen

12.01.2022 I now have one spot vacant for this Saturday morning at 9.30 am-12.30 pm $50 Freestyle sewing class. Bring your own project, learn exactly what you need to know! ... Message me to book in! Bookings are essential.

11.01.2022 Christina came to Sewing class with absolutely no sewing experience and in a few short weeks has learned to use a sewing machine and an overlocker, and has made a cushion cover and now is almost finished a lined skirt! Great work Christina! Watch this space to see the finished skirt!

11.01.2022 Weve been so busy in the studio lately that I keep forgetting to post anything! Hopefully I can give you an idea of what weve been doing. Belinda made a leotard for her daughter for calisthenics, and Elspeth is making a hoodie.

10.01.2022 Ashleigh Charles is challenging herself to make a slip dress out of Satin fabric which is super slippery and cut on the cross. Ashleigh altered an existing pattern to suit her own measurements and just stitched the side seams together with a long stitch to check the fit. We pinned out the sides as they had a bit too much fabric, then she marked the inside of the dress and cut off the excess seam allowance. ... Now Ashleigh is going to do French seams for the side seams and a double rolled hem. Its always a great idea to stitch things together on a long stitch to check the fit before doing the actual seams, especially if youre doing French seams. It may take a little longer but will save you time in the long run if you need to adjust anything.

10.01.2022 This is the lovely Emily! Emily cane armed with a pattern and fabric and has already made a shirt and is working on a pair of shorts now! Great work Emily!

02.01.2022 Ashleigh finished her denim beaded bag today, how amazing does it look!! Ashleigh first beaded the circular panel, it was beade on white fabric, so first she made a piece of denim with a hole in the middle, seam turned in, and top stitched that sound the beading. Then Ashleigh constructed the bag, fully lined it and made a solid base for it using buckram. ... Check out the stages and the finished handbag.
