25.01.2022 Been a while! Here's a couple of free and open-source apps you can download, install, and save some coin with! (They both work well on Windows) And if you ever need free, virus-free, no-nag software, for anything, hit up http://sourceforge.net/ and search for it there. * GIMP. A hard-core image editing app which I've been using for about 10 years. Pay for Photoshop? Nah! http://www.gimp.org/... * OpenOffice. Free drop-in replacement for MS Office. Nuff said. https://www.openoffice.org/

13.01.2022 Wannacry? Try Ubuntu, you'll be laughing!

12.01.2022 Hey peeps! All of you with an aging XP machine, support from Microsoft officially ended earlier this month. No more security updates or bug fixes. Instead of paying for a newer version of Windoze, which will require a newer PC, why not give Xubuntu a try? Runs nicely on old hardware, and if you get the brand-new 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) release you've got free updates for 5 years. Awesome!! Free and Open babies, that's the way to go. ... Check out this how-to, featuring a brilliant quote: 'As Phil Hughes, the founder of Linux Journal famously said "Would you buy a car with the hood welded shut?" ' Enjoy!! And don't be afraid to inbox me if you get stuck. :) http://www.linux.com//689416-weekend-project-linux-for-beg

08.01.2022 Installing Ubuntu. Follow these (hopefully!) simple steps to give it a try. You'll be booting from a dvd, and when you take the disc out, it'll boot back to whatever you're using now. You'll never know it had been there. I'm assuming you're using some flavour of Windows now, and you have a dvd burner, and know how to use it. First you'll need to know if you have a 32 or 64-bit computer. If you don't know already, right-click your "My Computer", select "Properties", and have a... look for any mention of "64-bit" on there. If it's not there, you have a 32-bit beast. Now go to http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop and grab a copy of the dvd image. Select the "Latest Features" one, and the 32/64-bit version depending on the previous step. Burn that image (an ISO file) onto a blank disc. Reboot. Enjoy! You can go bonkers playing with it at this point, but your changes will be lost when you reboot, so be warned. If you don't mind wiping your hard disc - I said WIPING YOUR HARD DISC: you almost certainly don't want to do this!! - you can click on the installer and follow the dots for a brand-spanking-new Ubuntu PC. Dual-boot, however, is most people's next step - running Windows and Ubuntu side-by-side and choosing one or the other when you tuen the machine on. Msg me if you're keen and I'll help you along that path.
