21.01.2022 Australia is embracing American shopping traditions - There has been a record number of parcels dispatched during the black Friday and cyber Monday sales. Although the black Friday sales are an American phenomenon, it has slowly gained popularity in Australia over the past few years. Black Friday begins on the fourth Friday in November and then ends on what is called Cyber Monday, which focusses on purchases online. E-commerce sales increased by approximately 40% and around ...5 million parcels were processed during the black Friday to cyber Monday period. It has been the biggest week in the history of freight. Compared to last year, black Friday sales were up by 18% compared to 2018 with cyber Monday increasing by 12%. This shows the increasing trend in Australian companies embracing the American tradition, whereas previously they have been reluctant to participate. Across the weekend alone there was an estimated 400 tonnes of freight transported along the air network, with 300,000 parcels delivered. It is clear to see how these increased figures show how Australians have accepted overseas shopping traditions. With Christmas approaching fast, it is expected that Australians will increase their spending over the holiday period in all categories. Forecasters expect a 2.6% increase in retail spending from 2018, coming to $52.7 billion. With the average parent predicted to spend around $255 on their kids. With Australians embracing American shopping traditions, and an improvement in Supply chain facilities there seems to be no slowing down of shopping and transport before the Christmas period. Electric vehicles have come a long way in a short number of years, and with only one moving part, the motor itself, it results in the vehicle being cheaper to run and maintain compared to diesel or petrol engines. The upfront premium price of an electric truck for example is fully recovered in approximately 4 years. Australian company SEA Electric is pushing for all-electric commercial vehicles, especially in the transport and logi...stics sector. Californian electric vehicle provider ZEEM Solutions recently ordered 100 Hino Electric trucks from SEA Electric, this is a huge step forward for the Melbourne based company, especially in the United States where some states have government rebates which can cut up to potentially 80% of the price of an all-electric vehicle. Rebates are important for electric vehicles, as currently they are pricier upfront compared to the petrol or diesel alternatives. According to a report by the National Energy Emissions Audit. Australia has a rising emissions problem. In transport emissions have increased by 23% since 2011. This was largely due to diesel which has also jumped by 50%. Although the Australian government has placed actions to improve fuel efficiency for heavy road freight vehicles, not much has been done in comparison for medium sized vehicles like those that SEA specialise in. In Melbourne, the City of Yarra Council has started to use electric vehicles, such as SEAs electric tipper truck for hard rubbish collection. Drivers of electric commercial vehicles are also seeing benefits with less fatigue, due to the reduction in noise and fumes, compared to those behind the wheel of a petrol or diesel powered vehicle. With emissions rising in Australia due to diesel and petrol, and SEAs latest score in California, hopefully its only a matter of time until the Government will do something to promote the use of all-electric vehicles. 02.01.2022 Microsoft to become carbon negative, including for supply chain. Climate change is a serious issue with observable effects already occurring on the environment. Ice on rivers and lakes are breaking up earlier, glaciers have considerably shrunk and trees are flowering sooner. The effects that scientists predicted in the past are happening now. More and more organisations are starting to reduce their carbon emissions, an example is Microsoft, which recently pledged to become ...100% carbon negative by 2030. Microsoft recently announced its plan to be carbon negative by the year 2030, it will achieve this by removing more carbon than it emits. Merely planting more trees is only one way to remove carbon from the earths atmosphere, however Microsoft intends to develop more high tech strategies, such as direct air capture, which gives the ability to pull carbon directly out of the atmosphere and lock it into storage, in aiding the development of such technology Microsoft is creating a $1 Billion fund. By 2050, Microsoft claims that it will "remove from the environment all the carbon the company has emitted either directly or by electrical consumption since it was founded in 1975." However, Microsoft is still not backing down from its close relations to oil and gas companies, arguing that they will be working closely to help such companies to meet todays business demands. Microsoft states that this carbon negative goal will happen across direct emissions and across their supply chain network, as CEO Satya Nadella stated the commitment will happen not just across out direct emissions, but across our supply chain, too. New procedures will be set to help suppliers reduce their environmental footprint. "Neutral is not enough to address the world's needs," Microsoft President Brad Smith stated, we have to get ourselves to net zero, this is evident from predicted future effects from NASA which include the arctic becoming ice free before mid-century, and sea levels rising by approximately 1.2m by 2100. A Carbon natural supply chain comes from understanding that climate change can affect the future of the whole entire supply chain, including the sourcing of materials to the final product being used. Which means changes must be implemented across the board to achieve this. 01.01.2022 Tatts me out of here..." When the Tattersalls office moved from Melbourne to Brisbane, Tattersalls entrusted the shipment of their historic bronzed barrel to Freight & Logistics. Besides the sheer weight of the barrel (approx 3 tonne!) other obstacles that we had to work through at both ends included; Street and lane closures Crane lifts at both ends Time constraints and traffic control (barrel collected at 3am!!)... Crating to ensure zero damage The outcome? A smooth shipment with Zero damage to the historic Bronzed Barrel that took pride of place at the front of the Tattersalls offices in Brisbane.
