02.01.2022 This morning (Sunday 12/4), ULDs (unit load devices, or aircraft cargo pallets) of Vivo Y20 mobile phones, are reported to have burst into flames on the tarmac at Hong Kong airport, shortly before loading Hong Kong Air Cargo flight RH371, scheduled to fly from Hong Kong to Singapore, according to local sources there. Thankfully, the fire broke out before the aircraft was loaded and in the air. It is reported to have allegedly occurred at Bay X452, circled on the map of the te...rminal in the pictures below. According to photos provided to us today; Hong Kong Air Cargo shortly afterwards announced an immediate embargo on Vivo mobile phones and two Hong Kong based freight forwarders. We are seeking verification of the facts from reliable industry sources. This latest alleged incident comes less than 16 months after an AirAsia Airbus A320 had to be diverted to Ho Chi Minh City on Christmas Day, 2019. This happened after a passenger’s mobile phone battery caught fire burning 20% of his body. The incident reported by The Aviation Herald details how AirAsia flight number AK-130 operating an Airbus A320-299N registration number 9M-AGL was en-route from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) when a passenger’s mobile phone caught fire. While cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet around 200 nautical miles south of Ho Chi Minh City, a passenger’s back up battery for his mobile phone suffered a rapid thermal runaway. The resulting fire burned his left buttocks, left leg, left thigh and left arm, burning 20% of his body’s skin area.
