20.01.2022 Humans have a total of 24 ribs, set out in 12 pairs. The ribs form a protective cage around our vital organs, including the heart, lungs and liver. The ribs are also an important part of our breathing. There are three main types of ribs: True ribs - these attach directly to the chest bone (aka sternum)... False ribs - these attach indirectly to the chest bone via pieces of cartilage at the front of the rib cage Floating ribs - these literally float at the back of our bodies and have no extension to the front. And breathe. Who knew this fact already?

18.01.2022 It’s time for Osteo word of the month Diaphragm! There are a few diaphragms found throughout the body, but the one most commonly referred to is the thin muscle that separates the chest cavity (which houses the lungs and heart) from the abdominal cavity (which houses the stomach, intestines and other important organs). This muscle flattens when we breathe in, and domes when we breathe out! Hands up who knew where the diaphragm was?

18.01.2022 Have you ever taken a ball smack bang on the end of your fingers when trying to catch, forcing your finger(s) backwards? This type of injury can lead to a condition called Mallet Finger where the tendon which helps to straighten the end part of your finger ruptures or breaks away with some of the bone still attached. This leaves your fingertip in a bent position. Most cases of Mallet Finger recover well with splinting and hands on treatment to maintain function of the hand, wrist and upper limb. Who has experienced this before? Let us know below!

18.01.2022 Tag that someone below!

17.01.2022 You wouldnt think it, but walking is actually a pretty complex activity! Did you know that you use around 200 muscles in just a single step? 17.01.2022 We found this article interesting! "Whilst invisible, pain is very real for the 6.9 million Australians living with musculoskeletal conditions. Whilst debilitating, the reality is that without pain management, a third (34%) of Australians who are impacted by chronic pain, will develop mental health conditions" (Osteopathy Australia, 2019)... It really shows the importance of taking care of your body and managing pain when you feel it. "Osteopathy considers the pain and the person together to provide a personal therapy, focusing not only on the pain, but also what is going on around it." (Osteopathy Australia, 2019) Have a read for yourself if you are interested! https://osteopathy.org.au//Media%20Release%20-%20National%

02.01.2022 We would like to introduce you to our new reflexologist, Michlin! Reflexology is a holistic therapy based on the principle that reflex points in the feet and hands, which correspond to the bodys organs, glands and nerve pathways, are linked by energy channels or meridians. When stress, pain or illness occur, these energy channels become blocked. Reflexology is applied to gently clear these blockages, allowing energy to flow freely again, to aid the restoration of the body...s natural balance and good health. Michlin personally benefited from Reflexology in maintaining her own health and decided to study and practice the modality. In 2006 she completed extensive training, including Foot, Hand and Maternity Reflexology, at the London School of Reflexology, UK. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and Remedial Massage Therapist, and enjoys teaching Mindfulness Art Classes in Nature and Meditation. Michlin said she appreciates and wishes this holistic self-care offering for everyone... May you "approach your self with reverence and love ... all I plead with you is this: make love of your self perfect." ~ Indian spiritual teacher, Sri Nisargadatta Michlin is at the clinic on Mondays and Saturday afternoons.
