20.01.2022 Kia rõnaki! Keep it smooth... Feet, paddle, catch, drive, Paddle to hip,... Relax, keep it smooth, glide. Eyes up, long back, soft wrists, loose hands, breathe. Elite paddlers focus on the process. Because focussing on results is stressful. When you train, or race where is your head at? On results? Where you think you will place? What other people are saying? Will you be disappointed if don't get a fast time? Overthinking your warm up (if you even warmed up) We paddle faster when we focus on the steps to do so. That's what it means to be present in your paddling, focussed on making each stroke count through each step. You do not win or even come close to it by focussing on the last 500m/50m of a race. You paddle fast by nailing your start, Busting off the line like you own it, With smooth transitions through your race strategy, step by step, stroke by stroke. Put all your focus into what YOU can do in the moment to paddle your best. #wakareo #reomaori #hoeatowaka #wakaama #outrigger #igpaddlers #mindsetofgreatness #mahurumaori #thesetohutoareteetzlol

18.01.2022 Start with imagining different ------------------------------------------------------ So you want to be better!? You want to get your mojo back after injury,... Or time out for whatever reason. It's not just about doing more.... Or going harder, Sometimes it's about doing different. Here's the thing, If you keep doing the same thing, The same way, You guessed it, You gonna get the same result.... Our behaviours are our thoughts in action, So imagine different, imagine better, it's the biggest challenge, from there it will get easier. Promise Kia kaha ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Fyi tune in to my facebook live tonight on The Outrigger Coach for my latest "Inspired Series" korero..... The aim is to start a conversation on blending 'feel' and sport science from sport psych, coaching to biomechanics, human movement.... Wednesday 2nd September 7pm NZ time..... Mtaki mai.. 03.01.2022 Whakamutua! Finish it off.. Finish it off is about giving it all you have...... Don't use your perception of not having enough stop you from putting in your best effort.... If only I had what they had....... Have you ever caught yourself in a race knowing your race start was and backed off? Or your crew is a bit slower on the turns and you immediately say "if I/we had a lighter canoe we would have done better". Whether it's a pumping race start, Lighter canoe, Bent shaft paddle, straight, Or even ocean vs lake or river. Or maybe it's time.... Feel like you would do better if you had more muscle? Or taller? Or more talented? Make use of the physical attributes you do have. Don't have the same access to elite coaches, strength coach, nutritionist etc? Use what you do have. Don't have enough water sessions before the next race? Use the sessions you do have. We always think we need more than we have. The problem isn't your perceived lack of gear, time, people. It's your mindset Read that again Get out there and get it done! #hoeatereo #wakareo #wakaama #outrigger #mindsetofgreatness #igpaddlers #vaa #canoe
03.01.2022 Kia manawa tahi! Keep it together.... We all want to get to the end the fastest, But the only way we will do that is by working together.... I get you are charged up, You want to power up, And you feel like you can, But straight up, If you power on your own, It's probably doing more harm then good. Unless you hit the water together, With the same power, drive, It is going to cause the canoe to surge, bounce, rock, sway and those arent really things that support efficient paddling. This is where the whole mindset stuff comes in handy. Becoming aware of the consequences to your actions or reactions in the canoe. It's not just physically that you throw the canoe out when you go it alone, But also the energy or vibe in the crew, Which in turn can disrupt other paddlers mindsets. And basically once that happens the wheels fall off literally. The only way around this is to recognize you need to work with everyone, And act on it. VALUE everyone's contribution. Everyone prioritises paddling to be there, don't ever think your time is more important than anyone else's. COMMUNICATE what you want and need. TRUST that they got you and will back you. LEARN from challenging experiences, don't allow past experience to judge your present. Sharing is caring so pass it on..... Always open to hearing your experience to date, ideas, beliefs so drop a comment if keen. #wakareo #hoeatereo #wakaama #mahurumaori #outrigger #igpaddlers #mareretahiti #throwbacks #gold #canoe #mindsetofgreatness @ Takapuna Beach

01.01.2022 27th April 2021 Dear all, As you are aware Hurricane and WAZA have decided to postpone the WAZA State Titles 2021 scheduled for 1st and 2nd May to the weekend o...f 22nd and 23rd May. We understand Friday 30th is likely to see all restrictions lifted if no more community cases with regards to numbers allowed being increased from 20, 4sqm rule at public venues changed and spectators allowed. We need to consider all clubs and postponing Friday afternoon was not an option or fair to our country members. We also understand that not all paddlers can be available on the change of dates. Race pack and program to remain the same. If you have already nominated and can race at the new date, your entry is valid and you need to do nothing further. ALL registrations close this Friday 30th April - you will not see a new event on AOCRA. Continue to enter May 1st and 2nd. Please ensure you are entering your canoe number in the notes section of your entry. If you can no longer race the new dates: If you have entered yourself - Request a refund. Fill in the attached form and send to BOTH [email protected] and [email protected] Ensure you complete all fields on the form, you must include the receipt number from your registration. Incomplete forms will not be actioned. Refund applications close 8th May. If you have been entered by your club registrar, inform your club registrar and they will complete the paperwork. Looking forward to seeing all at the WAZA State Titles 2021 on 22nd and 23rd May at Coogee Surf Life Saving Club and hopefully perfect weather. Sincerely Hurricane Paddling Crew
01.01.2022 I bet they can go along at a decent clip as well..
