17.01.2022 Do you know this man? The Australian War Memorial is looking for help to identify an Indigenous soldier whose photograph was found in South Australia. Indigenou...s Liaison Officer Michael Bell said the photograph of the Indigenous soldier was found in a trunk at the home of Dorothy Prisk (née Belton), at 26 The Minories, Port Adelaide. The trunk contained memorabilia from several members of Dorothy's immediate family, including her brother, Henry James Belton (known as Harry), who served during the First World War in the 10th, 50th and 45th Battalions, and for a time as batman to Major Noel Loutit. The trunk contained a letter referring to a soldier named Will, who was described as being engaged in the Dardenelles and a large battle on the 7th of August, most likely the Battle of the Nek. The trunk also contained a photograph of a soldier who appears to be Indigenous, and is likely to have been a driver or mechanic in an Australian Light Horse unit. We cant tell who he is from the photograph, Bell said. But someone out there might know. 14.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UN PEACEKEEPERS: Today, we honour our peacekeeping forces, who have an extra-special place in our hearts for putting themselves in harms w...ay to protect civilians from violence. From Rwanda to Bougainville, East Timor, Sudan and Iraq, they've experienced the worst humanity can throw at them, in the name of peace. Some have died, others were injured and a lot were traumatised by what they experienced. Today, we salute them! #rslwamateship #TeamVeteran : Defence Australia See more
14.01.2022 Amazing communities! Bunnings O'connor have been an avid supporter of our sub branch for many years. Funds raised at sausage sizzles directly benefit our veterans. Today they presented our sub branch President with a beautiful signed and framed appreciation hanger for our members. Such a kind and wonderful thought!

11.01.2022 Imagine you were born in 1900. When you're 14, World War I begins and ends when you're 18 with 22 million dead. Soon after a global pandemic, the Spanish Flu, a...ppears, killing 50 million people. And you're alive and 20 years old. When you're 29 you survive the global economic crisis that started with the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange, causing inflation, unemployment and famine. When you're 33 years old the nazis come to power. When you're 39, World War II begins and ends when you're 45 years old with a 60 million dead. In the Holocaust 6 million Jews die. When you're 52, the Korean War begins. When you're 64, the Vietnam War begins and ends when you're 75. A child born in 1985 thinks his grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, but they have survived several wars and catastrophes. Today we have all the comforts in a new world, amid a new pandemic. But we complain because we need to wear masks. We complain because we must stay confined to our homes where we have food, electricity, running water, wifi, even Netflix! None of that existed back in the day. But humanity survived those circumstances and never lost their joy of living. A small change in our perspective can generate miracles. We should be thankful that we are alive. We should do everything we need to do to protect and help each other. This message should reach everyone. Please help me spread it. #IbalikAngABSCBN #VoteYesToABSCBN #OustDuterte

06.01.2022 Lieutenant Kenneth Robert Dundas, R.N.V.R., Anson Battalion, Royal Naval Division, met a Turkish staff officer to discuss the request for an armistice to bury t...he dead near Gully Ravine on 9th July 1915. He asked the Turkish officer why they were fighting...... Lieutenant DUNDAS, R.N.D., took out the interim reply to the Turkish request for an armistice. He advanced under the Red Cross flag and was met by a Turkish Staff officer. He started a conversation in German, and the officer protested most forcibly that he was not a GERMAN; he, however, spoke German well and the conversation was continued in that language. The Turkish officer offered Dundas a cigarette and they chatted for a few minutes. Dundas asked why the Turks were fighting us who had always been good friends of theirs, and the Turk replied that they did not want to fight us but we had come and attacked them. He said that he himself was a peaceful individual who had been taken off to fight. [1] Dundas was killed in action at Suvla on 7th August 1915. He is buried in Lala Baba Cemetery.
