17.01.2022 / 10 Hello language lovers! My name is Sarah and I've been teaching for over 10 years. ... I speak and teach English and French, AND I am a classically trained singer. Why would that matter? Because proper pronunciation (which is the key to being understood) comes not from reading or understanding words, but from the shapes we make with our mouths, tongues and throats. I have studied French and English phonetics (the way things sound, the way to shape the mouth) both in France and Australia. I have helped students pass their IELTS and TOEFL(English) and HSC French- continuers and extension. In English we can work towards a more neutral accent, or even try to master the Australian accent if you're here and struggling to be understood. (We can also work on a range of British and American accents if required.) While all lessons will be tailored to the individual, I often work specifically on diphthongs, (one vowel transitioning into another, common in English,) and correct syllable stress. In French I specialise in getting those tricky "R" sounds, and correct narrow and wide vowels mastered, ("tu" vs "tout", a common problem for anglophones) among other things, depending on the student. I am friendly and supportive, I have studied French, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, German, Greek and Farsi, so I know what it's like to be a student, and I know how hard it can be to feel confident enough to try out loud in a foreign language. I use a number of different activities to teach speaking, comprehensions, grammar and listening, so that the lessons are never boring while study remains consistent.
