24.01.2022 Wow!!! A 75 metre drop, I really did feel my ears go pop. This Strépy-Thieu boat lift makes the European locks look like babies. You drive the boat into an enormous bath tub and it lifts both the water and boat 75 metres either up or down. An amazing piece of engineering. 21.01.2022 Well today is our last day here in Holland as tomorrow we cruise over the border into Belgium. We've absolutely loved it here and will be back for sure. So in memory of our visit, I've listed some pictures of the things that we found unique to Holland. For those who would like to see more than just some silly pictures , Susi has updated her blog on our recent travels at: www.robos.com.au
18.01.2022 Well, its our last week now on the boat before we leave back to Oz. Maastricht is a really beautiful city and a great place to leave the boat for winter. But the past couple of weeks have been a series of ups and downs for me. Here's a list of my high's and lows so far. 1. My hearing aids packed in and can't hear Susi prattling on 2. The dread of getting them fixed again when we arrive back in Perth 3. Did a walking tour of Maastricht's old centre 4. Cleaning the ...boat and getting her ready for winter 5. Visit from our friend Eva from Munich 5. Pre-paid the mooring charges for the next six months (1,100) To see what else we have been up to, you can read Susi's blog at: www.robos.com.au See more
12.01.2022 Although we just missed the Carnival here in Aalst, we were able to get some good photos of the procession. It's a MUST see event for our friends like Glen, our neighbour back in Oz. It's the one day of the year, that it's okay for men to dress up in womens clothing . To see what else we found here in Belguim, click below to read the update to Susi's blog. www.robos.com.au
07.01.2022 Well I sure had the piss taken out of me a couple of days ago. We went to Brussels to see what Trip Advisor had voted the worst national monument of all time; the Manneken Pis statue. The story behind it says that in 1451, a wealthy merchant who visited the town with his family, had his beloved 2 year old son go missing. The merchant hastily formed a search party, which scoured all corners of the city, until the boy was found happily peeing in a small garden. The merchant in gratitude to the locals who helped out with the search, had the fountain built. Luckily for us, we found the rest of Brussels fantastic.
