18.01.2022 HAPPY NATIONAL COACHES DAY!! On October 6, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation declaring October 6 as National Coaches Day. It states: "Coaches... are highly qualified teachersin highly specialized fields. But more than that, they are friends and counselors who help instill in their player's important attitudes that will serve them all their lives." Take the time to thank a coach today or this week!

18.01.2022 If you have expressed interest to play the social season hopefully you have heard from your current coach. There are some teams that we need to combine and we are also asking some players if they can play 2 games a week in order for some teams to have enough numbers. If you haven’t heard from anyone please pm the page. We envisage all teams will be finalized by the end of the week.

17.01.2022 I HAVE REALLY EXCITING NEWS TEAM!!! I have been very busy over the last few months on something that I am really excited to share with you. A dream that I have... had for almost a decade.. but due to my sporting commitments I have never had the time I've needed to create the program I've dreamed of. A holistic academy that encapsulates the human, as well as the athlete, tying in with the official sporting pathways. To help young athlete's 12 years +, boys and girls, be the best person and athlete that they can be. Without further ado, I'm introducing you to the SHARNI LAYTON SPORTS ACADEMY - Coming 2021 Throughout my career I have learnt so many lessons. From missing out on teams, fighting hard to make the Netball pathways, sitting on the bench, injuries and most importantly - how to be a good human and look after my mindset whilst being an athlete. Based out of Frankston, an area of Melbourne that is close to my heart, as this is where I grew up playing many sports early on and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be where I am today. I hope I can help others achieve their dreams too. I have so much to tell you, but for now all you need to know is the Sharni Layton Sports Academy is here and we are excited to share it with you. The best way to keep up to date is to: Follow on instagram @sharni_layton_sports_academy or visit www.sharnilayton.com/sports-academy to stay up to date. Lots of love Sharni

01.01.2022 Sagging Defence Strategy - Off the Player This is not a zone or a press its a 'Sag'. Practised this on Tuesday and implemented it yesterday and Boom! How much ...fun for players to try something collectively that is so very effective. How it works is every player is completely off their opposition player. Starting position is at the back of the player and to one side. Strategy is to go for intercepts. Must have hands over to force a higher ball and players need to go for intercepts even if it feels unachievable. The reason I say that is, players will get their timing with practice but if they wait for the 100% get ball intercept they could be waiting all game. After the attempt on the intercept, get it great but if the intercept is missed, hands over and stay with the player. It works!
